Giordano will be out for the remainder of the season. The estimated recovery time is 4-5 months.

It begs the question: is a team like Calgary better off missing the playoffs and improving their draft position? There's no way they beat Van and whoever beats the Ducks. It's a long shot but they could still win the lottery with f they miss the playoffs.

Only the bottom 5 teams are eligible for the lottery I believe.

IMO, the franchise would benefit more long-term from getting their young core some playoff experience, however brief. Not to mention the financial benefits of a few playoff games and the excitement or the fan base.

Flames can clinch the playoffs and eliminate the defending champs in their biggest home game since we eliminated them in 2009. Saddledome should be rocking.

Oh buddy I didn't realize the Kings were there tomorrow night. Can't wait for that one. Love that the Jets and Flames might both get in.

And seriously LA, losing to Edmonton at this point is just embarassing.

As bad as they are, Edmonton is pretty tough at home. Under the circumstances though, yeah, this is a bad loss.

LA is still going to get into the playoffs ass backwardly like the Hawks did in 2011. Calgary has to play Winnipeg in the final game on Saturday. So, if LA gets 4 points in their last 2 games (@Calgary, vs. San Jose), Calgary would have to beat the Jets on Saturday in what could be a "loser leaves town" match if the Jets don't get at least 1 point vs. Colorado on Thursday.

If it happens that way, I'm firing something through the TV.

If the Jets beat the Avs, they can clinch and might not care about beating the Flames in game 82. Flames have more ROW which, IIRC, is the first tiebreaker.

Pittsburgh has joined Detroit in their attempt to blow an easy playoff spot

Damn the injuries this year......Blue Jackets have dominated when fully healthy and it kills me they'll miss the playoffs due to the worst string of injuries I've ever seen

Seems like the Jackets lead the league in losing but giving their fans tons of reason for hope going into the next season.

They've won 9 of 10 and are winning 5-0 tonight. They're finally (mostly) healthy and playing great. They've lost over 400 man-games due to injury this year.

I don't just mean this year. That series against Pitt was similar. They lost but it seems like they went into the offseason with good vibes.

They're building the team in a very smart way. They've locked up their key players (Bobrovsky, Johannsen, Dubinsky, Foligno, Atkinson), and have a pipeline of young guys from all those high draft picks. They've made some smart trades (Umberger for Hartnell has been great, as Hartnell might hit 30 goals).

They had a ton of momentum coming out of that Pitt series, and in a fair world, would have been a lock for the playoffs this year. They've had only two players who've played every game. Bobrovsky has only 48 games started. Dubinsky missed 35 games. Jenner and Murray (two great young players) basically missed the entire season.

Hopefully they can avoid the injury bug next year and be contenders all year

Hope so. They deserve it.

Can't believe Boston got blanked tonight. They are letting Ottawa walk right in.

I've been following the NHL draft intently for about a decade and I really think this class has more potential superstars than any other in that time.

Obviously McDavid gets the headlines, but Eichel would be a no-doubt #1 pick in almost any other year. Then in the next tier you have Noah Hanifan, Dylan Strome and Mitch Marner. They will likely go 3-4-5 but in a normal year, each of them would get serious #1 consideration. All of them would have gone ahead of Eklbad last year imo.

After that tier you still have potential stars in Zach Werenski, Ivan Provorov and Matt Barzal to name a few. I think teams will be able to find perennial all-stars throughout the top 10.

So glad that my team has successfully tanked this year.

Happy for Winnipeg fans. They'll experience the playoffs for the first time in 19 years. The atmosphere for those games will be absolutely electric, really hoping they go on a nice run.

Absolutely, that's going to be madness. Anaheim could be stepping into a hornet's nest. Calgary will probably be pretty crazy as well since it's been 6 years for their fans also.
