I know next to nothing about Evander Kane, but I've been seeing a lot of negatively toned stories about him recently and am just glad it's not Patrick.

Hell of a player but plagued by personal issues throughout his career. I think he came into the league same year as Patrick Kane, but could be mistaken.

2009 draft and debut.

There were concerns about him in Winnipeg going back a few years. He's just not one of those guys you want to build around.

seems like a perfect guy to add to a team that has already built around its own stars.

For whatever reason, the Press in The Peg hates him. Complicating the issue is that he is African Canadian. Is it racism? They don't seem to have a problem with Buff. It's seems like he might be an immature jerk.

He's the very definition of the "Change of scenery" guy. The Jets kind of stink without him but seem intent on getting rid of him. The problem for the Hawks is that he makes too much money. They'd have to trade Sharp and probably also Versteeg in order to free up enough money.

I honestly don't know how you could come to that conclusion. He's already missed 18 games and the Jets are still the 5th-best possession team in the league. They weren't reliant on his scoring, which has dipped this year. They've finally found a goalie in Hutchinson as well.

He's a good player, but they'll be fine.

wow

According to the report, Evander Kane and Zach Bogosian along with unsigned goalie prospect Jason Kasdorf have been traded from Winnipeg to Buffalo. In exchange, the Jets will receive a package that includes Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, prospects Brendan Lemieux and Joel Armia, and the lowest of Buffalo's three first-round picks going to Winnipeg.

My friend told me his heart skipped a beat when he read an ESPN headline "Sources: Sabres get Kane in blockbuster deal"

Seems like Winnepeg got a lot, even if Kane rebounds. I think he will, he played most of the year hurt and on a bad line. I also know zilch about the prospects.

Seems to me Winnipeg got the better end of the deal here. The Central division just got that much tougher. Winnipeg will probably take one of the WC spots and be tough on either Nashville or Anaheim in the first round.

amazing finish to Bruins-Flames:

OT 4:58: Goal scored by T.J. Brodie(Backhand 30 ft) assisted by Mark Giordano and Sean Monahan

>BOS 3, CGY 4

@NHLBruins

#NHLBruins fall to Flames 4-3 as OT winds down. Shot from T.J. Brodie pops off Rask's glove, on top of the net, off his back & into the net.

somehow the Blue Jackets tricked the Leafs into giving up a living, breathing player in exchange for the broken corpse of Nathan Horton
Posted

to quote the guy who commented on your link:

"Because Horton's contract was uninsured, so the Blue Jackets were going to have to pay him $30 million over five years whether he played or not. They're not a rich team. So now they pay Clarkson the same amount of real $ they would have paid Horton, but get an actual player (sort of) for the money. They couldn't/wouldn't spend another $5 million on a player to replace Horton with the LTIR cap relief in their lineup."

I'm a Leafs fan and this is the happiest I've ever been following a trade.

The Leafs moved the worst contract in the league for pure cap space. It's magic, essentially functioning as a compliance buyout assuming Horton never plays again (a very good bet).

The Jackets are so poor that they'd rather take on a horrible contract that will severely hurt their cap situation instead of paying a guy to sit in the press box. They just added a $5.25 million cap hit for the next five years on a player who is likely a 4th-liner.

They were paying a guy to not play, and even with the LTIR, he created a hole in the roster.

It's not ideal, but the insane run of injuries this season has them desperate for minutes

And by the way all this really underscores is how stupid the Leafs were to give out that contract in the first place.
