@bigjohnsonblog: Tseng through 3: 4 K, 1 H (infield hit), 34 pitches, 26 strikes. Ho hum. @KCCougars #cubs

When could he be getting a promotion? I'd kinda like to see it soon, but then I realized it would be to Daytona and he'd be pitching every 9-12 days and it would probably [expletive] him up.

I'd almost rather keep him in KC all year and then start him in Daytona next year. It's his first season in the US and he's probably with a host family. He might force the issue with his performance, but I think they'll want to keep him in KC.

Completely agree.

Agree on keeping Tseng in KC the rest of this season. He's 19. Plus the added benefit of seeing playoff action the first year with the organization sets a nice tone in changing the "loveable losers" culture.

2012 3rd round pick Ryan McNeil is making his return from TJS tonight after missing the entire 2013 season. The 6'3", 210 lbs, 20-year-old righty pitched 20 innings for Mesa in '12 allowing 19 hits, striking out 18 and walking 10 for a 1.35 ERA.

In his first inning back, 2 hits, 1 HR, a BB and no Ks.

@sahadevsharma Albert Almora was held out of yesterday's game w a stomach issue & given an extra day off today. Should be back in Daytona lineup tomorrow.

He had the poops. Hopefully it doesn't flare up those hemorrhoids.

18-year old Venezuelan RHP Jesus Castillo getting the start for the AZL Cubs tonight.

Soler is in RF today, 1/2 with a single thus far. No Eloy in the starting lineup again.

AZL Cubs up 15-11 in the 11th.

Gleyber Torres 3/6 with a BB, triple and HR. Soler ended up 1/3 before being pinch hit for.

Really sucks to think that Soler could be at Iowa with everyone else right now.

the nice thing is that he is the one who could conceivably move quickly since his contract doesn't give us a lot of reason to goof around with him in iowa once it's clear he's ready.

I would just bring him up right now.

I feel like an idiot asking this, but do free agents like Soler and Cespedes have arbitration years after their contracts run out? When we signed Soler for nine years, we have him for nine years and no control after that? I assume that's the case.

As I understand it, we have him under control for those 9 years, and he has the ability to opt out of his salary in favor of arbitration when the time comes.

I'm pretty sure Cespedes had a clause inserted into his contract that he becomes a free agent after his initial deal expires.

He has to be up for good by 2016, right? He's burning option years in the minors now. If he does come up for the first time in 2016 and sticks, he will have 5 years left on the deal so at the end of the contract he should only be arbitration eligible, and not a free agent. No? You can write in language that says the team is not allowed to offer arbitration at the end, or something like that, which effectively makes the player a free agent.

I don't remember hearing anything at all on Soler having a true opt out. While he can take arb over his contract, if it takes him past the end of the contract, it just converts to additional arb years, not FA.

Cespedes is a true FA as soon as his 4 years are up though.

I think the risk would be in the arb years cutting off a year of the contract, which admittedly is not a huge concern at the moment.
