the longer this goes without him accepting NY's supermax, the better I feel.

Can I get a definative pronunciation on Mirotic? I've been hearing a lot of mir-AH-tic. Personally I'm hoping it's mira-TEACH. Also mir-AH-tich seems to be I'm the mix.

I'm fairly sure it's that one. Apparently, he goes by Niko too.

Ralph is one of the guys with inside info at RealGM Bulls board:

The Bulls have given Melo two options. One with Gibson and one without Gibson and Melo getting the max. Also the Gasol stuff is linked to this. I can't get into specifics but the Bulls could land Melo at 22mil, Gasol at 8mil and still have the MLE for Nikola.

I think the w/o Gibson is if no S&T. I can't get into specifics but the bottom line is the Bulls have told Melo they would give him the 4 year max.

I still think he stays with the Knicks.

There's a way to get Pau and keep Taj, prob no Niko then as we used the mle on something else.

If Melo choose us, NY would do a S&T and the Bulls would add more than Melo and he knows it. I still think he stays in NY as Lala runs the show IMO.

@BillSimmons

Hearing the Lakers made a MAJOR impact on Melo this week - it's now a legit 3-way battle between LA/Chi/NYK to land him. Crazy NBA weekend.

If anyone saw that, I deleted because it's so probably bogus that I didn't even want to bother with spreading it.

TyrusRose is another guy who has sources and just posted this:

I can confirm what Ralph said about Melo+Gasol, unless we have the same source  Trade was discussed. Not sure why, since the Knicks would be taking away a lot of the leverage they have, but there's that.

"Can't get into specifics" seems to be his big line...what's the guy's pedigree?

He had the Korver to Atlanta deal. He also texted me James Johnson to Toronto the day it happened. May have had a few others.

Of course it was just about time for one of these posts LOL

Hey guys. So I just want to give you a piece of info I just heard. Last year I interned at Steptoe Johnson, a very large global law firm. I still keep up with some people there. A few of the senior partners are season ticket holders, and also do a lot of work with InCapital, which is owned by Tom Rickett, the Cubs owner. Anyway, word is, in the office, Melo's attorney's are heading into Chicago tomorrow. That is all I got.

Ways to read Lakers' contention for Melo from Bulls' view: Bad there's more competition. Good he's still mulling. Best if leverage for S&T.

So I didn't want to be just another Rando with a Source, but my Father and I have relationships with two Sr. Partners at Seyfrath Shaw LLP HQ'd in Chicago: One of the partners called me earlier this afternoon (b/c he knows how closely I'm following the Melo situation) and the other partner confirmed via text that Carmelo's Attorneys will definitely be in Chicago by tomorrow mid-morning.

NOTE: I've been a heavy-lurker throughout this Melo process, and wanted to take a moment to thank you all for helping me through this roller coaster of a week. My process has been: 1) Read latest breaking story from (insert that hack ESPN/Yahoo "Insider") 2) Dial into 4-way conference-call with my Bro's to discuss the legitimacy/effect of said latest news 3) Come here to read through latest 8-10 pages of latest Melo Thread 4) Re-calibrate my thoughts on whether we land Melo.

Right now, I am very confident Melo will be a Bull.

The worship of MoneyMitch is really something else. Not referring to David, but those fawning over his weak trolling.

My belief that Melo would be a Bull was at 0, it is now in the negatives. This has all happened before.

BS lawyer stories aside, this latest flurry of LA being in consideration rumors can only be good news for us. Woj's report that he wasn't happy about being asked to take less money publicly and that he is considering LA (which makes no sense - sacrificing the 5th year AND the winning) didn't come out of thin air. And Simmons comes out with it like 10 minutes before, too...

You're just setting yourself up for disappointment

How is assuming nothing will happen as a defense mechanism fun?

There's a non-zero chance Melo goes to the Bulls. That's what I'm following this story for. That and it's fun.

Dear god why would lawyers at seyfarth shaw know Melos lawyers will be in town. And that would be crazy unprofessional and potentially grounds for dis barring if they actually spread that.

You'd have to be very stupid indeed to identify by name the firm that is the source of your info. He could have just said, "Very well connected / major firm." Fact that he named Seyfarth tells me its bull.

This Lakers talk w/ Carmelo feels like one of two things: either he is angling for full max from Knicks or trying to force a S&T to Chicago.

pretty sure you don't get disbarred for talking to randos about what city basketball players might be in on a given day
