Part of the reasons Lake and Olt have as few starts as they do is two (or 25%) of the games they've played against RHP were against Charlie Morton.

I don't think the numbers are going to reflect anything close to a straight platoon with those two by season's end (or until they play themselves out of jobs)

Personally, I don't see a big problem with having a straight platoon to start and letting performance dictate deviation from there. Lake and Olt may have higher ceilings, but Valbuena and Kalish are both prime aged guys with 3+ years of team control too. They aren't throwing away at bats to get Reed Johnson platoon ABs so he can be sold for a marginally better prospect this year.

Winning with them doing that is even more OK. Why is this even a post?

It'd make sense if we were winning with Castro and Rizzo not hitting but then that would kinda suck

From yesterday's game thread.

I wouldn't push the reset button on this game if given the chance. I hadn't taken a real good look at the April schedule before today, but holy hell, we never stood a chance to get off to a good start. I'll take the day Rizzo and especially Castro had.

We can play Valbuena AND Olt though...(and Lake and Kalish if we really wanted to)

Maybe, there's some doubt about Valbuena the 2B. And that might still happen if Bonifacio ever stops playing at a 15 WAR pace.

The point was that All winning >>>>>>> all losing to such a degree that acting happy with losses is dumb and I hate it.

Unrelated: I'm more worried about Lake making my hate look dumb than Olt. We're closing in on 300 PAs of reality refusing to deal with him.

It's hard to say this early in the season, but later in the season ask me if I'd rather have last night's game or a game we win 2-0 on a Sweeney 2 run bomb while Rizzo and Castro go hitless with a few K's and I might answer differently. (I hope the situation is such that my answer isn't different)

Olt running the bases for the first time as a Cub. Please do better than the last Cub to try doing that this year.
