Holy hell is Shea McClellin horse [expletive].

Geez. I know they wouldn't be taking a lot of these out of the end zone in the regular season but no even adequate returns for the Bears tonight.

Weems having a bad night

He looked like he was about to cry when Jay was yelling at him. Yeah, he can't be on the field much.

I honestly don't know if I could love another quarterback more than I love Jay. It's just the best.

Shea may be in danger of getting cut, IMO. We could be looking to replace him with a vet LB who also gets waived, or perhaps Phil parts with a 3rd rounder next year.

Game 2: Shitty run game and shitty Special Teams (again) Joe D better have some magical "process" to fix it, even though his coaching history is awful.

The lack of run game is worrisome. Garzas age and lack of push up the middle can't help

We parted with a pick for Vereen, can't remember which round

FWIW, I'm fine with the offense and defense thru 2 games. The #1 offense has had 4 drives, 2 TDs. The 1st drive of both games were 3-and-out (actually one was a blocked FG), they were ultra conservative, with Cutler throwing short passes including a -1 yard pass on 3rd and 3 last night. The run game with the starting group has been very vanilla. I only recall Forte running the inside zone and maybe 1 failed toss play. Those plays haven't worked in years. I think they're trying to keep Forte fresh for the season, because he has been worked into the passing game.

The defense was the bend but don't break we've seen for years, and it was very successful. Though, this team hasn't been able to cover TEs since the 90s. The pass rush wasn't as strong as they were in the Eagles game, hence no turnovers. The LBs are still a problem, but we knew they were always going to be and will continue to be. The TD the #1 D gave up came on a drive where they should have been off the field. They had 2 sacks in a series, taking the Jags out of FG range, only to give up a 1st down on a bogus illegal contact penalty by Hayden, who was only on the field because Fuller was hurt. Hayden also gave up the TD.

Special teams are a disaster though.

The thing that bothered me about the defense was seeing no pressure on 3rd downs. The same kind of [expletive] that killed us last year. That said, they did ok stopping the run, and were able to get several stops at or behind the LOS.

that said, although I was bitchin a bit here last night (its what I do) i have a hard time taking anything from preseason when they are running vanilla plays and at 85% intensity.

Except special teams. That worries me greatly. Rosenbloom had an article the other day about how DeCamilis' Dallas special teams went from 17th in his last year to 6th without him. The Bears went from top 10 under Toub to 23rd last year with DeCamis. Meanwhile Toub joined a Chiefs team that was 17th in 2012 and took them to 3rd in 2013.

To be fair, the punt team looks pretty decent. Upgrading from Podlesh will be a positive difference. Hopefully, they'll just take touchbacks on kickoffs. On kickoff return, hopefully Gould is just giving them a chance to evaluate coverage by kicking them short (though he's not known for a huge number of touchbacks).

Is the punter going to come down to the last day or is O'Donnell the favorite?

I'd say O'Donnell is the heavy favorite, given the fact that he's better and he was drafted.

The drafted part I knew, the better part I wasn't positive on.

I know Way has been around for a few years though and nothing has come of it here or anywhere else so that's probably all the writing on the wall needed.

Can we finally elevate Josh Morgan to #3 WR until Wilson returns? Weems had no business there or anywhere else on the field last night.

Tirico briefly talked up Michael Spurlock as having had a good camp per Cutler and Trestman. But yeah, Weems has about 8 years in the league as a WR who hasn't cracked a rotation yet as a WR. He's been having a good camp, I guess, but he has no business on offense. I don't know that he makes the roster, to be honest.
