If this line is as good as it can and might be, it won't matter all that much who is at safety. They'll just have to catch the errant passes.

 

We had some of the best defenses in the NFL multiple times with Conte and Wright at safety (which is not to say that they're any good).

 

With line play like the Bears had last year, just about any team would suddenly find their safeties to be ineffective.

Yeah, I'm not declaring our safeties to be great or even good, but without the front 7 doing their part to contain and pressure, it's pretty hard for the safeties to show any strengths at all. On the other hand, I think decent pressure can make our CB's look even better than they have the last few years.

 

My only real concern on defense is the linebackers. I really hope Bostic and McClellin work out.

They hate on our defense yet pick a team who is notorious for bad defense, not to mention having one of the worst secondaries in the NFL, to win a division where two of their three opponents have Top 5 offenses. Makes sense.

 

Also, barring injury, I think this is the year Cutler finally cements himself as the second-best QB in the North, for those who don't think he is already.
