Thought the first-teamers looked pretty good tonight on both sides of the ball. Loved the pressure the front four were getting on D.

Unfortunately this game really made me realize that special teams is a huge concern. Between losing our once-in-a-lifetime returner, having a new long-snapper, and the fact that DeCamillis is mostly an idiot has me genuinely worried about this unit for the first time since about 2005.

it's early but it's looking like whatever hope there was of mcclellin salvaging non-bust status as an LB is pretty dead

Eh...it's his first game in a new position. I'm willing to give him a little slack. It's not like we have some stud LB's pushing him, anyway.

I can't wait for the season to start..!

Yeah that first pre-season game is always a great reminder how bad you can't wait for football to start and how horrible the pre-season is.

Steltz and Conte off the PUP. It's going to be interesting who gets cuts at the S position. Mundy is safe. Vereen isn't going anywhere. If they only keep 4 (I think they keep 5), that means at least one of Wilson (5x pro bowler), McCray (started opener), Conte (2-year starter), Steltz (special teams mainstay for several years) is going to get cut.

As for the game, I finally watched it yesterday. The first teams definitely looked good. Guys were getting after the QB, flying around in the back 7. Could tell the right side of the OL was missing. A little worried about Mills missing time. He was the weaklink on the OL last year, and could use the most practice. Depth doesn't appear to be all that great, though Ola did a very good job at RT and OG.

I'm not super worried about the special teams, especially after 1 game. They weren't very good last year, but I don't think they made a huge difference in winning and losing games last year and ultimately, I think they'll be OK there. I am worried about the LBs. For all we heard about McClellin and Bostic showing strong flashes, both looked pretty terrible. One of them is going to start and the other is going to be the primary back up and play a lot after DJ goes down as he has the last 3-4 years. Neither is reacting fast enough or attacking the LOS in the run game, which is a huge concern. And both also blew coverages.

This team is going to have the same weaknesses as it did last year. The hope is that the offense takes another step forward and they get a little luck with health and an improved DL hides those weaknesses better.

I remember seeing bad ST in preseason before -- and I think even when they wound up pretty good.

Not concerned with that until I see more. Probably not even until I see it in the regular season.

@ESPNChiBears

Brandon Marshall just returned a punt in special teams drill

@ZachZaidman

Jerry Franklin getting reps with 2nd team at LB. Shea McClellin has not been used so far with the first two groups.
