I'm guessing it went something like, "Stop the show or you're cut."

Anticlimactic now, but it has been reported that the film crew was in the room filming the now famous scene when he found out the Rams were selecting him. What seemed like a wonderful, spontaneous moment now seems much cheaper and manufactured.

The Matthews family is something else.

On the far left is Texas A&M junior C Mike, in the suit is the Atlanta Falcons #1 pick T Jake, in the Falcons hat is 19-year NFL veteran T Bruce, to his left is Kevin who was undrafted C out of Texas A&M but has spent the past 4 years with the Titans & Redskins, and on the far right is Luke who is 6'3" 300 pounds...and is 14-years old & just finishing 8th grade. I'm surprised Bruce didn't end up on that ESPN 30 for 30 Broke documentary just from having to feed those boys.

Man, those gays are so diabolical.

So you are saying there was a film crew in the room where we, the television viewer, were able to view his reaction? Inconceivable.

Everyone knows that there's no chance they would have kissed otherwise and they only did it for the camera. EVERYONE.

Well, you could carry what I said to that extreme, or maybe that I'm a little disappointed that it might not be as organic a moment as I first thought. I actually was thinking as much of the weeping on the phone as the kiss.

Because the first time you saw it you assumed it was hidden camera footage, or that there were no cameras at all?

So for some reason you thought his reaction was somehow less genuine than all of the other televised reactions we see just because there were some OTHER cameras there? Pretty sure someone is going to be tremendously emotional on one of the biggest days of his life.

Naively maybe, but I just thought he was like any draft pick who had ESPN cameras in the room, not OWN reality show cameras and producers. And seriously, I didn't have any strong reaction to the kiss, but the weeping during the Rams call sort of struck me at the time. Now it seems a little staged, or at least a little overly dramatic.

Maybe I am just a cynical bastard, but yes, it seems less authentic now. Gay or straight or the kiss has nothing to do with it.

I would bet large money he was not the only draft pick to cry after getting the news. And I would bet he has also been through a bit more of an emotional process dealing with coming out privately and publicly in addition to going through the draft process, thus contributing to a greater likelihood of crying.

Crying (Tommy Harris), kissing, and other weird reactions (Russell Wilson's wife) happen all the time. The cake thing is what seemed staged to me.

You should probably just punch out while you can.

Whether the cake and/or the crying was staged I don't know how ones feelings could change based upon finding out a documentary camera crew was there instead of or in addition to a ESPN crew.

Not changed feelings, but playing to the camera a bit.

THERE WAS ALREADY A CAMERA CREW THERE AND WE KNEW THAT BECAUSE THEY WERE BEING TELEVISED ON TELEVISION VIA CAMERA THAT WAS MANNED BY A CREW WHOSE JOB IT IS TO CAPTURE MOVING IMAGES FOR DISPLAY ON THE SCREEN

THAT'S NOT THE POINT.

He signed on to do a reality show for Oprah about himself. In addition to the usual ESPN guys were cameras and producers for his show about him. It would actually surprise me if the cake wasn't completely set up by the directors, because that's the sort of thing that reality show directors do. Not bashing Sam. I just feel a little differently about the whole clip now.

Lol, yea who orders a cake for a big celebration, anyways, besides attention seeking gays with a reality tv contract.

Because that's EXACTLY what I said. Snarky, but nothing to do with what I said. Stop trying to make false arguments (again) that I'm somehow making this anything about his sexuality or that I'm bashing him. It just isn't as real to me anytime you get reality TV people involved because it's their job to milk the most out of every scene. Nothing more, nothing less. You're reaching here.

No you're reaching to think reality tv producers somehow try to milk any more drama out of a situation than the [expletive] NFL draft who clearly always look to minimize drama for the tv.

I really don't know what you're trying to say here, but I am pretty sure I completely disagree with all of this.

You basically stated the moment felt less genuine to you because it was a manufactured moment for a reality tv show, when in reality you saw what you saw by watching a reality tv show that manufactures drama for three days every spring.

You're feelings on the moment shouldn't have changed. It was always a manufactured moment there and Sam always had control over what cameras would or wouldn't be there.
