You can pretty much bank on us drafting or acquiring a big beefaroni butt nose tackle in the offseason.

I want to switch to the 3-4.

I want to switch to the 3-4.

It would extend Briggs' career, fit Greene better, and give Shea one last chance

I missed the game. Did Merriweather launch himself and go helmet to helmet again?

He launched on Marshall and Jeffery, might have concussed Marshall

The ref raging is hilarious, but come on...this defense is a big fat bag of rotted meat and broken bones. They couldn't stop WASHINGTON.

They couldn't stop Washington without five of the starters on D. Six if you count Peppers being invisible.

Hoping/pining for a bunch of oft-injured players makes you feel better? They're mostly old, declining or seemingly injury-prone, so them coming back doesn't really do much to allay my concerns for both this season or going forward.

RT @JulieDiCaro: I've been told there is substantial tearing and Cutler is likely done for the season, but I can't confirm and really hope it's not true.

Kap is hearing it's similar to the Nomar groin tear in 2005.

So what do the current Bears look like in a 3-4

Melton and Wotton at DE. Peppers and McClellin at OLB, with Peppers probably also going in at DE some. Bostic and Briggs in the middle. Might as well just let go of Anderson and Williams since their contracts are up . Paea is stuck not fitting really anywhere but could probably situationally play NT or DE depending on situation. Definitely need some additional OLB and a true NT.

The good news is our offense doesn't stand to lose a lot next year with I believe Slauson and Garza being the only FA question marks, and the biggest missing piece probably being a speedy slot receiver, so you should really be able to commit some resources to revamping the D (even if we stay in a 4-3). Obvious you have to lock up Jay too but I'm taking that as a given.

With as much progress as the O has made in one year and very few holes to fill- Get a new DC and spend big on D in FA and in the draft. Sucks if we lose Jay for the year, but it may bring him back cheaper longterm, which isn't a bad thing.

Paea should work as a 3-4 DE, rotating to NT when the NT needs a rest.

I think you have to bring back one of the free agent LBs because one of the reasons you consider switching to the 3-4 is the depth at LB.

If they aren't going to make the playoffs, I desperately want them to get a top 10 pick to help get an elite guy. I'm tired of them missing the playoffs and getting picks in the late teens.

They should be able to re-sign Cutler on the cheap.

That's all for my silver lining. Back to the alcohol.

By the way, talking silver linings: Bostic looked horrible in the first drive but was so much improved in the second half. Wootton was so disruptive in the first quarter he was double teamed for basically the final three quarters - which makes Peppers performance even more disconcerting.

I'm almost cool with letting Cutler go, trading Marshall and Forte and tanking for the next few years. I really don't see this current team contending for a title anyways.

Whatever we do on D, let's do it without Tucker.

I'm not sure if Tucker is the problem. It's just Emery and mostly Angelo left us with an aging defense that hit it's peak already.

Nah. As long as you can make the playoffs, you never know. The Giants and Packers of the past 5 years weren't that great.

Marshall and Forte aren't netting you more than maybe two 3rds combined - given the level of the offense before Cutler's injury (even after his injury?), I don't see the point in blowing up the offense. Rebuild the defense while the offense carries you now.

Agree. I wish Tucker would make better adjustments but I'm not sure you can adequately judge him when nearly half the (yes, admittedly aging) starters are out.

I just don't know what he's actually doing that's of value. The whole carry on Lovie's scheme thing was nice, but it's not going to work to have one of your primary leaders do nothing but follow a dead regime.

So far he just seems like a non-entity to me, and I'd like something more.

Bostic is going to be a stud for this team. Hope we can get another with the 8th pick.

Of course I want Cutler back (more than almost anything I've ever wanted ever), but a 31 year old QB coming off a torn groin doesn't get me too excited.

At this point it feels like he hasn't had any impact to speak of. The injuries do not help but I felt like this defense was weak before the injury bug started to bite.

If we end up picking 8th we'll be picking a QB.

No way would I want to tank in football. The offense is set up very well for the future. The draft isn't even THAT strong defensively next year up top. Trade back into the late 1st, maybe we can wind up with 3 top 50 picks and/or 5 top 75's. We'll have money to spend in FA too. It's not going to be hard to find an upgrade for Peppers at this stage of what he's giving us.

If we were healthy, I thought we'd have finished 10-6, maybe 11-5. If the D improves as much as the O has this year, we're an upper tier playoff team.

I'd rather have Cutler than any QB besides Bridgewater and Mariota who should both be gone by pick 3.

Disagree. Barr, Clowney, Nix, Tuitt, Mosley (not a need), Van Noy and Clinton-Dix could all go top 15. It's especially a great year to pick at the top of the draft if you don't need a QB because that will filter elite non-QBs lower.

I want to tank because I'm really annoyed that the Bears can't pick up elite talents when they don't make the playoffs (admittedly no excuse for them picking someone as bad as McClellin no matter the draft spot).

I'm all for bringing Cutler back, odd silver lining is that this reduces his likely demands.

With the way the NFL is trending I would also like to see a 3-4 defense, just think it's a long shot as Tucker isn't likely leaving and even if he did, the odds would still go towards a 4-3 scheme.

Lose Cutler and you're rebuilding on both sides, not including a regressing special teams.
