@mikecwright: Chicago Bears signed DT Christian Tupou to the practice squad and terminated the practice squad contract of DE Aston Whiteside.

Where is Amobi Okoye these days?

I want to say that Jeff Dickerson was on W&S claiming the Bears sniffed around Okoye after Sedrick Ellis retired, but he's either banged up or not in game shape, and maybe a combination of the two.

Going to be a JV game in the middle of the field if Paea doesn't play. Backup DTs vs backup interior linemen.

DJ, any thoughts on any of the Practice Squad guys around the League?

Of the ones I seen, I remember liking Everett Dawkins (FSU) and Cody Larsen (Utah St?).

Liked Dawkins coming out of the draft. Undersized, but obviously quick. For some reason, thought he was hurt. Larsen, I don't know much about. Don't remember him being anything special in terms of pass rushing/quickness. Want to say he's more of a strong, pocket pusher not a 1-gap type player. Not that at matters at this point, need bodies at DT.

Damn there goes a couple of free fumbles.

On the plus side, he's quick and shifty ala Reggie Bush. And that means Brandon Jacobs (makes me look quick and shifty) will carry the load. Can play 6 in the box and still come up and hit him just outside the hole.

Wilson was the only guy they had who could make something happen in the run game. The Bears would be rightly embarrassed if they can't stop Jacobs.

On defense, this should be all about frustrating Eli Manning in every which way the Bears can.

Looked at some more practice squads, I'm shocked Jerel Worthy is on a practice squad. I loved watching him at Mich St.

Worthy dominated at times. Had a huge game against Wisconsin beating 3 players eventually drafted in the top 3 rounds (Konz, Frederick, Moffitt).

Edit: actually Worthy tore up his knee last year (all the cool DTs are doing it) and doesn't look like he's able to play yet.

Now he's promoted to the active roster, and Collins is on IR.

FO actually bumps up the Bears after Week 5, as they are now 7th in the NFL in DVOA (15.3%), up from 11th. The offense especially shoots up, from 19th to 10th. Defense and Special Teams are both 15th, down and up from last week respectively.

Paea, Tillman, m. Bennett all game time decisions

I'm going to guess the latter 2 definitely play. Bennett played thru the knee Sunday and its his former team. Tillman played all but 1 snap last week, I believe. And his is the same injury he's played with all year. Paea is a little more iffy. I think the team really wants/needs him to play, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

Tough call on Paea. Don't want him to get hurt trying to come back too soon, but also really need to have some kind of quality in the middle.

I'm normally an optimistic person, so I hate that my brain was already going this way too.

Just can't think like that yet. We're on a 2 game losing streak, but this isn't the same kind of game that the past 2 weeks were.

If the Bears do lose tonight, it will make me re-think things quite a bit. Right now, I'm still holding out hope that this is an above .500 team and should be able to take out an opponent in the midst of a trainwreck season......especially at Soldier Field.

I'll go 31-23 Bears.

Eli Manning will have some success with the passing game, owing to the lack of Bears pass rush on most plays, and/or blitzes that are picked up. I'm still counting on the Bears making things tougher near the goal line to pull us through, in spite of giving up yards between the 20's. Ultimately I'm expecting the Bears to make the Giants one dimensional, which should not be difficult, and then find ways to harrass Manning when it counts.

The Bears get back to creating a turnover or two, which leads to points. If there's a team to win the turnover battle against, this is it. The Giants know how mistake-prone they've been, so expect them to concentrate on limiting the turnovers. Bears will still get a couple.

Bears offense performs well, especially in the passing game, putting it in the end zone on at least a couple nice, sustained drives. Running game is largely controlled by the Giants, though. It won't matter as much as it would in the past, since the Bears are now becoming a more pass-oriented offense. I'm hoping to see the Bears develop their screen game more. Forte is a weapon out in the flat -- I suggest we use it liberally.

I'll go with Bears 41, Giants 9, because [expletive] pessimism.

Yeah, I have that pessimistic fear, but I can't talk myself into actually thinking they'll lose.
