Bummed I won't be able to watch the game at Dodger Stadium tonight. Should be quite a spectacle. And a normal game without all the shoveling and changing sides.

NBC's coverage has been an embarrassment so far.

first rule of lip syncing has to be actually stand by the microphone to give the illusion that you're actually singing.

they should never let Roenick try to ad lib. I was embarrassed for both him and Brian Wilson.

It was nice of the Kings to go with unis that are even worse than the Chinese knock offs that the Hawks will wear in their game.

I hope the Olympics are awesome, because the Blue Jackets now have a full month before their next home game. They also end their pre-Olympic schedule with road games at the top 3 teams in the Pacific

Didn't see this until now. The Hawks are going from January 26 to March 4th without a game at the United Center (technically Jan 26 - March 1st without a home game as they are playing at Soldier Field on 3/1)

The media seems to be having trouble figuring out the best way to list the standings/playoff scenarios with the new set-up. This is the first time I've seen it this way and it makes the most sense to me.

Yes thank you. I'm sick of seeing it the old way and having to figure out myself who the Wild Card teams were.

Makes sense, but then how do the seeds work? Does it re-seed after the first round?

With Zetterberg on LTIR the Wings have room to add a good player for the playoff push. I however would be against trading any real prospect they have just to make the playoffs this year

I'm pretty sure that they keep it within the division* for the second round. Chicago would play COL in the first round then STL, assuming STL won.

*The wild card teams may or may not actually be divisional opponents, as they will just be thrown into a matchup with a division winner based on who has the most/least points.

Exactly. It's sort of how the NHL used to do it back when they had division semis, division finals, conference finals, sc finals, except I don't think there were wild card teams before.

Ryan Kesler apparently wants out of Vancouver. If the Hawks can magically make that happen without giving up 19, 2, or 88, I would lose my mind.

Jean believes the Canucks would be looking for a hockey trade, meaning that Gillis wants a player or players who could immediately help the team rather than picks or prospects.

But Kesler's agent denies the whole thing...

Kesler only makes 5 million a yr with two more yrs left. If Vancouver was going to trade him they will get a haul in return.

The only way a trade for Kesler would work at the deadline it would have to balance out money wise. That would mean having to include Seabrook, Bickell or Oduya or some combination involving at least 1 of those guys. I doubt the Hawks would be willing to part with Seabrook since their D prospects are still too far away to play his minutes, I don't know if Oduya would accept a trade to Van and I'm not sure how either side would feel about Bickell. Van probably like Bickell but not at his price tag. The Hawks probably don't want to give up on him so quickly.

It would take Bickell plus. Truthfully I think the Hawks would be better off not making that deal. I think Bickell is a better fit with the current Hawks than Kesler would be. If Bickell was moved another big body net presence would need to be added also. Vancouver really doesn't need d-man that bad unless they trade Edler.

Really? Kesler would be the 2nd line center they've needed basically forever. Bickell got overpaid because he had 2 good months. There probably isn't 1 GM in hockey that wouldn't trade Bickell and a 1st round pick for Kesler. And it would probably take more than that.

bickell basically sucks, i'd let anybody take him for free just to get rid of his contract.

as for kesler, i wouldn't give up any of toews/kane/sharp/hossa/saad/keith/seabrook/hjalmarsson for him. he'd be an amazing fit on the hawks, but i don't think it's worth messing with the core parts when they showed last year they can win without a 2C. i think one of the big advantages the hawks have over other teams is that all their key players have played together for so long. i don't think kesler is worth losing any of those guys.

Saad?

Yeah, Bickell is garbage. The way he was basically standing around when NYR scored their second goal last night infuriated me.

He had a good shot attempt or two last night, but Saad and Shaw were all over the place, and Bickell...I'm not sure what he was doing.

The Hawks have won 2 Stanley Cups without a really good 2nd line center. They have not won a cup without a power forward that creates pressure in front of the net. Is Bickell going to be that guy in the playoffs again? IDK. But I will maintain that the Hawks have enough quality forwards to get by without a great 2nd center, they will not win the Cup without someone creating space and cleaning up garbage. Holmstrom drove me crazy for yrs for the Wings, but now that they never really replaced him I truly understand the value of players like him.

kesler isn't making as much as i thought, but i still don't think i'd trade saad for him. kesler is pretty expensive for 2 more years after this, and he's fallen off quite a bit the last few years. really the only thing he has on saad at this point is the position he plays. i see saad as the eventual replacement for hossa or sharp on the top 2 lines. he's 8 years younger than kesler, and he's still dirt cheap for one more season after this. taking on keslers $5m a year would only complicate things when toews/kane get paid.

i wonder if the canucks would have any interest whatsoever in hossa. i'd hate to lose hossa, but he's expensive for an eternity and we're probably going to have to lose him pretty soon anyways.
