Hate the challenge system - wth? Why one for six innings and then two for three? Stupid. Replay is great but it should just be applied by a fifth ump - no challenges. MLB fucked this up.

I thought I remember reading that the DH position is actually not a top offensive threat. Why not just bat 8 batters if you don't want to see pitchers hit?

Sacramento definitely not a place for an MLB team. The rivercats do nothing but win and still can't draw. Although an improving park area including a new basketball arena might help.

Speaking of speed of games, the number one rule change for me would be reducing pitching changes - make pitchers face at least three batters or something, anything. Pitching changes are the single most boring aspect of baseball.

The River Cats led the PCL in attendance every year from 2005-2010 (that's as far back as milb.com goes), were second in 2011 and 2012 and are back to leading in 2013. And seeing as they led in 2005 with 10496 and drew at least 10432 each of their first five years, I'm guessing they led the PCL those years also. Wiki (and a couple other places) say their first season attendance of 861808 was a PCL record, which they broke the next year.

So basically they're the best drawing team in minor league baseball.

Really? Every time I go there is no one there. Hmmm.

well, I ran a half-marathon that ended there and the stadium was more crowded for that than most of the games I've been to.

I like the idea of making a pitcher pitch to three hitters in theory. Edited by CubinNY

I was about to suggest for balls and strikes home plate umpires can just wear Google Glass with a HUD that shows the strike zone and the locations of the pitch, but that article suggests something like that.

They are using the replay system in the AFL. The one game I watched there was a challenge at 1st base. They looked at the video and still got it wrong. It will be interesting to see how often they overturn close calls

No, that was my screencap from the tv feed. To me it looked like 1B foot was on the bag just a hair before the runner. I would hope they are using more than just TV feeds for their reviews

Ah, that's cool then. I haven't seen it and I was hoping that wasn't an example of what they were using, even with the ST consideration (not equipped with as many cameras/positions as a normal game).

I still hate the idea of centralized review, why can't they have someone in the park? Of course, I'm also not a fan of the challenge process, I'd just like to see them review anything that needs reviewed. It seems like doing that way they could actually review more things, but in less time than an official challenge from one coach or another. But, I guess it's an improvement...unless they can't actually fix bad calls.

In spring training, I doubt they are...and even if they are, it probably isn't near as elaborate of what they'll have in the MLB parks.
