Not blaming Gregg here, but get a [expletive] bullpen next year. So tired of these late game blown leads.

As much as that was a problem pre the Strop/Guerrier moves, the offense has been a MUCH bigger problem in the more recent stretches of failure. Svuem not knowing how to manage a bullpen automatically makes the pen worse, too.

During which recent stretch of failure? Because we were doing well the past two weeks and the bullpen has been rivaling it's early April stretch of awful this series.

Yeah, what "stretch of failure?" Two days? My issue with the offense is that they managed to go 3-2 while scoring a whopping 7 runs in those games. Then you had the single inning exception in the first game tonight, but then right back to only managing 2 runs in the final game. That's not setting you up to do well for a prolonged period of time unless you have an amazing bullpen.

With the exception of the 7-6 win at Arizona, the offense has been pretty bad post all-star break. "Stretch of failure" was poor wording. Many of the wins have been thanks to the pen.

Pirates swept the Cardinals in a double-header today so there's that little pick me up

I don't really want the Pirates to go on a deep playoff run and get the extra revenue that comes with it.

There was a huge debate down here in the last couple of years about the Cards getting a bunch of extra revenue from playoff games and that whole thing was debunked I believe. It pretty much came down to having to make it to the World Series for the money to become remotely significant and even then it was a huge, go out and sign all the players amount (or really even one significant contract).

It's a couple of million per home game, give or take. $10 million extra in the hands of the Cardinals isn't ideal, but they are going to be awesome anyway and aren't that strapped for cash. $10m extra in the hands of the Pirates could help them put extend their window by a year.

was anyone going to trade for Gregg anyway? We're definitely stuck with him now.

You do realize that scouts watch the games right? They don't simply discount a guy because they see a BS in the box score.

Yes, and for the past several weeks he's been giving up bullets all over the park and getting saves in spite of it.

But you said this was a make or break outing for him...

not just a make or break OUTING, but the difference a hitter out (with the bases loaded) and allowing him to reach base is the difference between him having trade value and being worthless. apparently major league general managers have the attention span of an orangutan.

We have a better record against the Cardinals and Pirates than against the Brewers this year. If we had won two of the three games yesterday and today, we're 8 out of the wild card since the Reds can't seem to beat the Padres.

Bullpen does it again. Strop yesterday (though that's partly Dale's fault since Strop probably shouldn't have been in the game), Russell in the first game today and Gregg in the second (again, not totally his fault with the missed strike 3 and Castro's error).

And a speedy guy beating out a dribbler that barely made it passed the mound. The bullpen has fucked things up plenty of times this year, but yesterday was one of those frustrating games where things just didn't go right.

You are putting the blame on the end guy but when you have scored 14 runs in 7 games you are lucky to be 3-4, not to mention your lucky to be in a position to have your bullpen blow it.

We swept the Giants and scored 6 runs. So we are really lucky to have gone 1-6.

Bottom line is if you continue to put pitchers in a situation where a run loses the game, they are going to lose their share of them. We are 3-4 relievers to basically be perfect every time the come in the game....that's not possible.

Yeah, I know. It's just frustrating to have the starter pitch well again only for things to go poorly after he leaves the game.
