Vitters is shredding and walking, he's obviously developed his approach. Can we bring him up and play him somewhere, please?

Bryant is 0/3 with a K and two errors.

It's still too early to say for sure that he's developed his approach, but the early reports look really good. I've been wanting to make the same comment, I guess you're more courageous than I am. Vitters will get a call up at some point, and if he keeps doing what he has been, I'm excited to see what he can do in his second taste of major league pitching.

For all the crappy performances today (and there were a lot, a total of 16 errors so far), the Cubs top guys did some nice things and that's all I really care about. Cabrera finally pitched for Iowa and did really well. The big 4 in KC all had great nights. Baez and Alcantara both went for extra bases. Vitters continues to hit and draw walks. Tyler Skulina had a great night and has yet to allow an earned run in 10 innings. Dunston went 4/5 furthering the argument that he's for real as a prospect. Hannemann is back and got a double. And Kris Bryant played. I don't care how terribly he played. I just like the fact that he did. It's strange to feel good about a night like tonight, but I do. This was a good night for Cubs prospects.

I'm really surprised Cabrera came out of the bullpen for 2 innings. I wonder if it's just an attempt to limit his innings the rest of the season or if it's a permanent move.

I have no idea what people have against him. It's not like he's 23 at low-A or 33 at AAA. he still has a shot to be an everyday major leaguer, and he's young. But BA doesn't think he's a prospect so I guess he can't be.

Valbuena is young, and Valbuena is an everyday major leaguer.

Yeah, the love for Valbuena is [expletive] weird, too. He's had a good half of a season, but he's been garbage up until this point.

He's a corner outfielder in waiting with over 2000 professional PA of sub 800 OPS performance. There's just nothing interesting there.

Posting those numbers is misleading. He's improved at every level he's been at, which is what you're supposed to do. Apply the same logic to Olt and you'd have to love him.

This is what I'm wondering. I'm sure hoping we've not given up on him as a starter.

He's over 600 PA as a Cub and has 3.4 fWAR in that time. It's not a hot month or two buoying him, he's a good player.

I'm just unclear on why having a good young player at the major league level has anything to do with holding onto hope that Vitters turns out.

Sulley has previoulsy expressed anger that the Cubs are wasting a spot on Valbuena while Vitters is around.

If anything, it's Ransom and not Valbuena keeping Vitters in Iowa. But I agree that I at least haven't given up hope on Vitters being a right-handed batter on the platoon side at 3B or a corner OF spot. If he can stay healthy the rest of the way I'd like to see him come up at some point after the deadline and at least get a few starts a week at 3B/OF against lefties.

I think he can play everyday. But as long as we're wazting seasons, why not find out if he can play corner OF.

I'm fine with him staying at Iowa all year. What I hope for him is that he gets more outfield reps. He's played a total of 4 game in the outfield, only 2 this year.

Vitters turns 24 in a month. If he's going to have a career it's going to peak next year through 2018ish. All of those years will take place prior to him becoming a free agent, and most of it will be without arbitration inflating his salary. Him not racking up service time this year was a good thing. And again, the guy just got back from another long DL stint. He's got 81 PA this season and less than a full season at AAA combined. There is no rush to get him in the major leagues yesterday. Let him actually show something for a prolonged period for the first time in his career before a promotion.

he's got over 500 PAs of around .880 OPS at AAA, the only reason to keep him down there is service time, like you said, not that he's got anything to prove.
