I know it's just the DSL, but players with the right profile are worth noticing down there. One of the players that fits the profile is Jose Paulino. A lefty with a projectable frame (6'2", 165 lbs.) who had good peripherals as a 17-year-old last season and is breaking out so far this year. As a lot of players are apt to do, he had a shaky (and by shaky I mean terrible) first outing. But since then he pitched 19.1 innings, giving up 14 hits, walking 5 while striking out 27 for an ERA of 1.86. Last year he struck out a batter per inning while giving just less than a hit per with a 3:1 K/BB ratio. Today he went 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R (earned), 0 BB, 6 K. His two previous appearances were even better.

Alcantara with his 12th dinger. (CR, you bastard! Shouldn't be at work or something...)

Baez with a single and a walk so far.

Vogelbach is on a tear. I believe both Theo and McLeod predicted he would have a great 2nd half. In his last 10 games heading into this one, he's hitting .421/.500/.579 with 7 walks and just 1 strikeout. Add in his dinger today and it just gets better. Including today's partial game, he's got 10 RBI in his last 9 games and 7 in his last 3.

All the big names have been heating up lately. This is very enjoyable.

Javy's turnaround on the walk-front has been incredibly impressive.

Yeah, between the K-rate and his age, he's definitely been the most interesting pitcher in the DSL this season (besides Paniagua). And he didn't even get a 6-figure bonus when he signed.

Cabrera has stayed hot as well.

7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 9/5 GO/FO. ERA down to 3.34

Might be time to give him another shot at AAA. He's at about 105 IP at AA this year.

Definitely time to bump up Cabrera.

I'd say so. Solid peripherals, 104 K in 105 IP. Time for another shot.

i think shawon dunston jr may have more walks as a professional than his dad did.

(not really, but he draws walks and his dad definiteliy did not)

It was funny until you explained it.

I don't think it's about a shot at this point. It's just that they don't feel any urgency to shuffle at this point. The whole reason for starting him at AA was to get him reaclimated with starting. After a rough start, he's done great. I think increased in Twitter that he leads his league in K's. however, while the Iowa rotation might not offer much excitement, it's full of guys that they feel they're not ready to give up on, and depending on how the fire sale goes, they may end up auditioning several of them on the final months. Loux is one that still has some glimmer of hope to be a 4-5 starter and now with Arrietta in the mix, that rotation is loaded with potential depth; something we've learned is of value the past few years while parading out a revolving door full of awful everytime a starter's been hurt.

Struck, Raley, Rusin, and Mosocorro are all probably depth at best, but if they fell there's any chance of them being even useful 6-7 starters down the road, they simply aren't ready to pen them. And there's really no urgency to do so. Vizcaino, Cabrera, Hendricks, and Jokisch could make a very interesting AAA rotation next year, unless some of them end up breaking camp with the big club.
