The Glendale City Council voted 4-3 to approve a 15-year, $225 million lease deal for Jobing.com Arena to Renaissance Sports & Entertainment a.k.a. IceArizona, the NHL-backed group that will take over the Coyotes and keep them in Glendale.

Poor Seattle. No Kings, no Coyotes.

The league's idiotic stubbornness to try to make this work won out. And why not, they found a sucker to buy the team and a city willing to underwrite what they must know are certain losses.

Flyers kill me. They were able to buy themselves out of cap hell and have decided to start doing the exact things that put them in that position to begin with.

I think the city has too much money sunk into the arena and that ultimately won out. Do the Suns play in Jobing too?

The Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars pulled off a seven-player trade Thursday, with forwards Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley and defenseman Ryan Button going from Boston to Dallas in exchange for forward Loui Eriksson and three prospects.

No they play downtown.

Dallas isn't messing around. Got Seguin and Peverly earlier (though it cost Ericcson) and now added Horcoff also.

So their options were subsidize the hockey team even though they don't have the money or leave the building that they built just for hockey empty and still have to pay for it. Either way they were screwed.

Stephen Weiss got $4.9M annually on the same day Tyler Bozak got $4.2M

i'm reserving judgment until i see what happens with the RFAs, but on the surface that's a little hilarious

Flyers sign Ray Emery for 1 year, $1.65 million, which...puts them over the projected salary cap by 1 million even after all the salary dumping they did.

What a crazy day. Glad to see Bobby Ryan leave the west although we'll only be facing Anaheim twice under the new alignment. Which is the same number of times we'll face Ottawa. Nevermind.

Weiss is an upgrade over Filp(who got $5 mill per). I think Weiss will score 60 points centering Franzen/Alfredsson. As a Wings fan I am way more upset about them potentially losing Brunner than I am over the Weiss deal. I also would rather have Alferdsson for 1 season at 5.5 than ever spend another penny on Cleary. So it has been a good/bad day mix I guess.

So the Blue Jackets throw a big contract at Horton, even though he needs surgery and will be out through December.

While I'm happy to see them be players in the FA market (and even happier that a "name" player is willing to come here), is this the right guy? My knowledge of the Bruins is only the SCF series.

I like Horton. He had several good years in Florida before he went to the Bruins. 7 yrs is kind of a long deal, but I think 5.25 a year is probably fair.....if he can stay healthy. Columbus is probably in a position that they have to gamble a little more than other teams in the FA market to get top tier players. If Gaborik keeps playing like he did when he finished with Columbus, they should be playoff contenders next year. The Pens and the Rangers are the only 2 teams in their division that I think are better than Columbus right now

On another subject. Looking at some of the moves and new divisions, I think Vancouver will have a hard time making the playoffs. They have gotten a lot of points the last few years by playing in the weakest division. They only have Edmonton and Calgary left from that division. Edmonton is getting better. Plus they will not be competing with SJ, LA, Anaheim and Phoenix. Only 3 teams are guaranteed playoff spots. I do not think it would be surprising at all if the Canucks did not make the playoffs

wow, essentially Seguin for Eriksson. can't say that i like that deal for Boston. They're bringing in a lot of new faces on a team that didn't need it and probably had another run in them.

Jerome Iginla signs with Boston in an attempt to be the next Marian Hossa.

Not sure what his motivations are? He surely could have gotten more years somewhere else. Not at 6 mill per, but it would have been more money. He must think this is his best bet to win a cup and is willing to do a one year deal. Hossa was still in his 20s when he made the one year deal with the Wings, so the gamble was not as big. He was still going to get a pay day and could be selective on where he went, which ended up working out great for him. If Iginla does not have a good season this year and Boston does not win the Cup, he will end up losing a bunch of money and may never get a Cup. Boston seems to be going all-in this year because the Sequin trade will probably end up being a bad trade. Losing players like Ference and Peverly will end up hurting also. Eriksson and Iginla give them some more fire power...not sure they are better without everyone I mentioned plus Horton.

An under-the-radar signing we're going to come to hate I think (we being Hawks fans) is Max Lapierre going to St. Louis. He and Shaw are going to get real familiar.

And Matt Cooke is now in our division (MN). Great.

yeah, hopefully his next transgression doesn't come at the expense of a hawks player
