I'd really like it if Cabrera & Wells had outstanding outings.

I would like it if Cabrera would stop walking the world.

uh...he did.

A 9.2% walk rate for a 24 year old in AA isn't outstanding by any means, but he is posting a 2.44 K/BB ratio right now. It's not great, but it isn't "walking the world", either.

The MLB average is 8.2%. When you are worse than MLB average in your fourth AA stint, it's bad enough for me to consider it a major issue. I mean, there's no objective definition of "walking the world," but it's bad enough for me.

Marcus Hatley (17.5%) and Matt Loosen (18.4%) are walking the world so far.

Cabrera is approaching average, but still needs to improve.

OK. I amend my previous statement.

"Cabrera needs to stop walking more than average, especially considering his age and level, before I become much more than passingly interested in him as a starting pitching prospect."

Thanks.

Of course, you could go for the much less Dramatic, "Cabrera still needs to cut his walks."

****less**** dramatic?

That doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm not following you.

Of course not. Don't worry about it.

Not really sure what happened here, but I basically agree with Kyle. This is a last gasp effort to use him as a SP, he still needs to get better.

A brief semantic quibble, nothing more.

I really want to like him, and his numbers are a little better this year than any other time he's been a starter. But even if he keeps these numbers up all season, what does that leave you with? A 25-year-old coming off an average AA season.

There's nobody here that disagrees with that sentiment. But there's also no need to overstate the situation, either.

It's very possible for a pitcher to do very well in MLB with a walk rate of 9.2% if they're also striking out 22.4% of the batters they face. It would be much better if Cabrera could improve both facets of that equation in his fourth go around at AA. But the situation is hardly dire enough to say he's "walking the world".

3.73 FIP in a league with an average FIP of 3.79.

Hmm...I'd say you got me there.

Loux has given up 7 hits and a walk in 2 1/3 thus far. Iowa is trailing by 3. Stewart with a double for the only ICubs hit. Vitters is not in the lineup.
