August 2011 is the only other time, also with 5 exactly.

Castro up to 0.8 WAR on Fangraphs. If he gets to 1.0, that would certainly be something. OPS of .679 also, so .700 isn't out of the question. What an incredible story.

I'm happy for Starlin. I don't know how many meatball fans I have heard say some variation of, "He's a loser. We'll never win with him on the team." Tonight's got to feel nice for someone like him that has been through some shitty seasons, especially with all of the ire he has drawn from a lot of people.

Stalin making the final putout tonight was a very satisfying conclusion.

My favorite MLB club is the Cadinals.

Everyone makes mistakes.

Apparently, the FO told Castro that he wouldn't be traded this offseason (i think it was wittenmyer who reported it)

though you'd think that if the right deal presented itself, they wouldn't hesitate to ricky renteria him

It was Joe Maddon at the end of July and the promise(?) was no trade during the season. The season is over. A 25 year-old 3-time All-Star cost-controlled SS is a centerpiece trade chip for Theo and Jed. These speculative dump-diving trades are aiming too low.

It’s probably not Starlin Castro, if the front office is true to its word and projections. Sources say the All-Star shortstop-turned-second baseman was informed after the season that he would not be traded, the club viewing him as a potentially important, established contributor to its 2016 lineup.

It’s unclear whether that means he’s considered more of a trade candidate near the July 31 deadline if his value increases (relative to his contract) and the Cubs believe at that point they have a playoff-caliber middle infield without him.

Thanks, David. Don't read the ST daily. But I still think they're offering him around. He's got such a fragile psyche it seems. What other Cubs player has to be told twice in 6 months that he won't be traded?

It does sound like they are trying to trade either Baez or Soler instead of him though. Maybe there is a lot less interest in him so they are deciding to just keep him for that reason.

Oh, what is this fresh nonsense.

nevermind that if they did tell him that twice in the last 6 months, and then traded him anyway, they would lose any credibility whatsoever amongst players. whatever that's worth, anyway

nothing says fragile psyche like being lauded by your teammates, manager and front office for handling a demotion and change in position and positively contributing to the team in a playoff race.

IT'S ALL JUST CODDLING HIS BABY BRAIN. When everyone loved his walk-up music it just made him SOFT AND WEAK.
