I guess there are few downsides to standing on top of the plate, aside from exposing yourself to more injury and I guess, at a tertiary level, pissing off the other team.

More HBP and more plate coverage is good. Thanks Rizzo.

If you can't turn on the inside pitch, you'll get busted over the inside part of the plate a lot if you stand too close.

when they try that, you'll get hit a lot and also standing over the plate might infuence umpires on those calls (as i think has been talked about by len and jd with rizzo)

Also true, but there is a downside, which is the point I was making.

Also, since umpires are calling more low strikes and outside strikes, standing closer to the plate is about the only recourse hitters have to try to gain a competitive advantage.

I have a hard time believing that hes referring to anyone else but Starlin

like castro isn't in the lineup and was throwing a fit about it or something?

I'm guessing. Why else would Jake call out one of his teammates (assuming that's what's happening here)?

Castro has an OPS over .800 since getting benched, but I quit last night's game after 1 run so I didn't see what else might have caused people to rage against him.

If Arrieta is talking about anyone on the current roster, I have to think it's Castro or Baez. Since Baez is in today's lineup...

EDIT: Although I guess there's a slim chance it could be LaStella?

He had one in the 9th, and the game thread leads me to believe there was another, but I wasn't watching at that point.

Yeah, 2 came in that 6 run inning. Both would have ended the inning and I believe both were on easy flips from Russell at 2B

Drop one at 2nd from Russell who double clutched his throw on a force play, was an easy catch and he just dropped it.

OH BOY I AM EXCITED FOR THIS TO BECOME A MAJOR STORY

the timing is too perfect, whether it's arrieta seeing baez's name on the lineup card and being happy castro is sitting or castro expressing displeasure with returning to the bench.

My guess/hope is that it's not someone on the Cubs since that's pretty shitty and I'd like to think he's smarter than that (and that Maddon and co. would have laid down the law on social media stupidity), plus there's seemingly nobody on the roster who deserves it.

Plus it's not like he's been getting any kind of regular playing time; why would he be expecting to automatically get the start, especially after having a turd of a game? All we've heard is how cool he's been with being benched and working with people to try and improve.

LMAO

Jake told Jesse Rogers that he was supposed to be replying to a fan that said to him that the error should have been a hit.

Was not directed at Castro. Jesse says that Jake and Castro have had a really good relationship, so he doesn't believe there's any way he was calling out Castro.

Controversy over.
