Hah, a friend who is a Red Wings fan posted this on Facebook after the no-goal but before the winner:

Finally, vindication from the Calvin Johnson no TD catch against the Bears. #NeverForget #NoGoal

Edit: BTW, I'll take it given how that particular Bears game ended

Funny he doesn't remember Bernard Berrian getting jobbed by the same call a few years earlier at Ford Field and I believe the Bears did end up winning that game with the Johnson call.

Very glad and happy the Blackhawks persevered through that horrible call, both on the double-penalty and the goal wave-off. Huge comeback after getting down 3-1 in the series. :yahoo: =D>

I admit my lack of hardcore knowledge of hockey and its rules, but even so, how in the name of all that is holy and good, does Saad get called for a roughing on that play that disallowed the Hawks' likely regulation winner?? I mean, he's slammed into the Detroit bench by that [expletive], gets his face and upper body shoved on while in said bench, and then gets thrown to the ice for good measure by said Redwing [expletive]. What in the world did Saad rough on that whole series of events? The ice, with his back!? [-(

The NHL - and that idiot ref - avoided a huge black-eye by seeing Seabrook deflect that shot off Kronwall & into the back of the net in OT.

NHL network showed the Hawks bench reaction to the disallowed goal. Toews went all Hulk Smash and beat his stick on the ice.

Tazer has showed a surprising amount of emotion this series. Didn't know he had it in him. Just goes to show how frustrated he's been. I bet he's relieved to be moving on to play team that doesn't have a Zetterberg on its roster.

or a Datsyuk. those are the two best defensive forwards he's going to see in the playoffs.

Didn't realize this but Walkom is the same ref that swallowed his whistle when Torres knocked Hossa into next season last year.

Interesting that both of the "game winning goals" for the Hawks last night...the disallowed one, and the real game winner, were both from defensemen.

The forwards outside of Sharp really need to pick it up in the LA series.

Saad, while laying on the ice, punched whoever it was in the face, which would constitute roughing. At least I think that was what was called. However, what should have happened was a delayed penalty on the wing player first which would not have ended the play. Unless Saad did something first but it looked like Saad knocked down Zetterberg, elbowkater took exception and drilled Saad and then Saad retaliated. It seemed like the goal was already scored by the time Saad retaliated.

No matter. This reminds me a lot of that bad call where the umpire ruined that guy's perfect game (and career in a way) for the Tigers a couple years ago.

Yeah apparently the Wings were complaining that Saad tripped Zetterberg. So maybe Walkom was trying to even it up. Who knows. What I do know is that Saad's supposed punch doesn't warrant a penalty based on the way the series and game had been called and the assault he had just received.

Apparently Edzo is working the ECF, not the Hawks/Kings series.

He probably begged off the Hawks since he's worked so hard to not show bias toward them he's repeatedly made dumb statements against them.

I should let this series go at this point, but this one......no penalty called...from Game 6 I think...

oh, and there's nothing in sports that rivals an OT game 7 in the stanley cup playoffs

against your historic rival who used to use you as a farm team and otherwise violate the sanctity of your being for years and years and years. so much awesome to this win, it's immeasurable

Yeah, the newer fans don't really understand or appreciate the significance of this. It's like the Bears finally beating the packers at the start of the Lovie era or like the Cubs beating the Cards to advance to the World series.

To clarify, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a newer fan, since Dollar Bill Wirtz actively tried to alienate the fan base and players alike.

Kings fans were pulling for the Red Wings based on the comments here, as you'd expect.

I found the same sentiment amongst my friends who are Kings fans.

the Kings aren't going to scheme against us, they're going to play their game. that makes me feel a bit better, because that means we'll be free to play ours. Sutter isn't nearly the tactician that Babcock is.

Heh, possibly. Or it's that ever despised east coast bias. In any case:

Mike Emrick, Eddie Olczyk, Pierre McGuire will call Boston-Pittsburgh. Dave Strader, Darren Pang, Brian Engblom call Los Angeles-Chicago.
