They won't win the series (can anyone beat the Hawks outside of Pitt?), but they might take a game or two because - as you saw in the mid-3rd period - the Hawks do have stretches where they get back on their heals and the forwards do a bad job on the back check. Every now and then (Game 3 v Wild) they have games like that.

Detroit is going to lose this game, so I don't see why they don't start knocking Blackhawks on their ass in front of the goal.

Take the penalty, send the message

That's not really their game. Babcock will make other adjustments for game 2. The key for them really is trying to get a stronger forecheck and spend more time behind the goal line in the offensive zone. That's what gives the Hawks the most trouble this season.

After that game, their defensemen are probably curled up in a ball, rocking back and forth silently screaming "make it stop, make it stop"

I think they're losing because they're letting Chicago walk up to the goal unchallenged

they're losing because Chicago has a ton of guys that can really skate and they're wearing them out. and also there's the fact that Chicago is a far better team. it's like saying that the Heat beat the Bulls because the Bulls kept letting Lebron get too close to the rim with his hand and the ball.

I think Detroit should try to prevent the Blackhawks from scoring goals while at the same time try to score more goals themselves.

by not having 20 feet of open ice in front of their own goal at all times

Easier said than done.

Last night was a good example of what is meant by "skated into the ground". You can't simply say to a less talented group, "Cover the high and low slot areas!" It's like telling the Cubs that they have to get more hits, like the Braves do. They don't have the same ability, so it doesn't matter how much you encourage them to do it.

I can't wait for the Blackhawks to win the cup and then still have you complain that none of your teams ever win anything

la is by far the biggest threat. if we make it to the finals, we will do so as the clear favorites to win the cup. i'm more worried about boston than pitt

All of this is true. It will be interesting to see how long Stoll is out and how that affects the Kings going forward.

Boston survived the first round by the skin of their teeth against the Maple Leafs. Why so much concern?

Boston is a team of goons with talent. They also have a *potentially* dominant goaltender in Rask. That's the sort of team that winds up troubling the Blackhawks the most. Teams that try to skate with the 'Hawks usually pay the price. The Bruins won't do that. They'll have Lucic etal thug it up and make it a grind. The Hawks can still win that type of series.

How much profit are the Hawks making these last few years compared to the pre-Rocky years? I just don't know why Bill Wirtz didn't run the team like his son unless they were making more money them.

if you're near the cap, you're only making money if you're in the playoffs. i can't imagine the first round exits of late have been too kind on the team coffers. that's if you believe what the nhl owners say about the economics of the game, anyway

Think of it this way, each home playoff game they sell 20,000+ tickets and the cheapest tickets are about $100. Then add concessions revenue.

So I cannot think of a more lopsided loss the Wings have taken in a playoff game in the last 20 yrs. I sure I am forgetting something, but either way that was obviously one of the worse butt whoopings they have taken period
