Bad managing by Sveum last inning. Save Soriano for the possible tying HR against Chapman... put a better contact hitter in that spot... I know our options are limited, but...

When Soriano is your best/only option in that spot, you know it's not even worth stressing over. this team isn't built to win anything.

When Soriano is available as a pinch hitter (and is your best option) with two runners in scoring position late in a one run game, you know it's not even worth stressing over? And somehow it follows from that that the team isn't built to win anything? Huh?

I have a feeling Soriano would be a lot of teams' best option in that spot.

That...does not make any sense.

Don't you think Barney would have been a better option?

No, in fact only Sappelt would be a worse option than Barney in that situation.

All I'm saying is Barney's more likely to put the ball in play and Soriano's more likely to take Chapman deep.

soriano is kind of weird when you're bunting and apparently playing for one run. they shouldn't have bunted in the first place, especially when it went 2-0

You need two runs to win today.

i think micromanaging there, especially on something so tedious, would have been a mistake as well. soriano just couldn't keep his dick in his pants.

Sac bunting into a situation where you have Soriano up in need of contact doesn't make sense. The pitcher doesn't have to throw strikes and he'll swing. This teams already makes outs far too easily.

Sappelt looked completely overmatched there.

gameday makes it look like soriano just had the worst at bat of all time and swung at three fastballs that almost hit him.

please confirm this is not true.

I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse, but he didn't really swing at the second one and got rung up on an absurd check-swing call. But the other two, yeah.

You used that wrong.

Well, nevermind, LOL.

Scout was right : Aroldis Chapman is taking a chance challenging Anthony Rizzo in a location where he is hitting .364 for the season compared to .171 overall.

I'm starting to think Sveum really does tell hitters what was said the other day about it being pinch hitting and not pinch walking or whatever the [expletive].

Huh? That's what he did. Pinch hitter, pinch runner, sac bunt, pinch hitter.

i mean not going with your best remaining hitter in the most important spot in the game.

Credit manager Dale Sveum for sticking Navarro in there in big situations.

“A guy walks up there, he’s ready to hit and swing the bat and not have any kind of thought process, meaning, ‘I’m not worried about what the guy’s doing, I’m going to get my swings in.’ It’s called pinch hitting and not pinch walking or pinch taking,” Sveum said. “That’s nice to see. That’s why we went with the three catchers, to have the ability to do those kinds of things with those two guys.”
