So is this still happening because he's a Proven Closer, because Hoyer is fantasizing over getting some 24-year-old A-ball pitching "prospect" at the deadline for him, or because Theo just doesn't care?

And which answer is less rage-inducing?

D: Because 2-3 months of good results outweigh 3 appearances.

The "good" results were somewhat overrated, and no, they don't necessarily do so in this case.

I know people love to spam "sample size," but there's also the matter of extremity. Extremely bad results are less likely to be sample-size flukes than ordinarily bad ones (and the same goes for good). Same argument as we had last year when Brett Jackson had a million Ks in 50 PAs or whatever.

13 batters faced:

2 BB

2 HBP

2 HR

2 K

5 BIP

That's bad enough to be legitimately concerned over, sample size or no.

Legitimately concerned, sure. Cut and run at first sign of difficulty, no. Velocity seems normal, location seems off, front office likely thinks he should get time to try to get control straightened out.

I really wish that Baez for Justin Upton trade went through.....

Huh?

Yeah. Exactly.

Plus, there was a legit chance Upton didn't want to play for the Cubs. I get the whole 'put big market teams on the no-trade list for leverage' thing, but he may have nixed coming here for all we know.

I think it might be prudent to give him that time in low-leverage innings.

Is it safe to say that Carlos Marmol could possibly be broken?

If he were broken, he probably wouldn't be averaging 94 on his fastball.

I guess broken wasn't quite the term I was looking for. What's that word again? Oh, yeah. Bad.

Josh Hamilton is batting .0625 with 8K's in 16AB's. Is he broken, too? Or are we way too early to be drawing meaningful conclusions from what we're seeing.

Marmol's stuff is still there and he isn't missing his spots by that much. He'll be fine.

No benefit. Even if he were booted all the way down to non-mop up middle relief, theres the chance that we could end up with something of some value, or else packaged. As Tim said, the velocity's there so someone should be willing to fork over a lottery ticket or two in hopes that their pitching coaches can cure what's beenailing him on and off for the past 3-4 years. I'd prefer take that chance over dumping him to appease the angry mobs and bring up one of the guys who werent very good in Spring Training or the early goings of the AAA season.
