Lillibridge and Gonzalez are playing because of injuries. Hairston, in the situation you reference (our RH lineup), has a .325 OBP. Anyway, I'm not sure why you pulled his overall OBP because his strength isn't in getting on base. It's slugging. As a platoon player when he has a 122 OPS+ against LHP.

Castillo is the most bizzare inclusion of all. In his limited playing time last year he put a line of 467/532/667 (1.199 OPS) in 42 AB vs LHP. Forty-two at bats is hardly a measuring stick, but to single him out for ONE game is ridiculous.

I include Hairston's ob% because we needed something to happen with men in scoring position. His K's per bat (1K in just over every 4 at bats) show that it shouldn't be a surprise that he struck out, because he tends to strike out.

Castillo was included because he came to at bat in the situation AND as I said he is unproven in the major leagues. I am not sure exactly what Castillo will bring offensively...could be good, could be bad. He actually got hit by a pitch, so I wasn't blaming him. I was simply pointing out that it wasn't real surprising that no one got the job done.

As for injuries, I was under the impression that one of the righties would be at third vs lefties regardless of stewart's health.

As for jumping to conclusions, I look at a lineup that brings Sappelt as a leadoff hitter, Hairston 5th, Castillo 6th and Lillibridge or Barney 7th does not have the look of a contender and has little to do with yesterday or the 2 games so far. Like I said if it doesn't come from Castro, Rizzo and Soriano I don't no where it's coming from.

By the way, I agree with everyone that all fans think their team has problems scoring with a runner on third and fewer than two outs.

But I really do think our team has struggled with it as much as anybody the past few seasons.
