Bryce Montes de Oca, a guy a lot of us wanted the Cubs to pick on day three, is officially headed to Missouri. Not surprising since the White Sox drained their remaining funds to sign Rodon.

12 minutes passed the deadline and word still hasn't leaked. Crazy.

@jimcallisMLB: Baseball source: Mac Marshall did NOT sign w/@Astros. Don't know if that means Aiken didn't sign, or signed for too much. @MLBDraft

#Astros did not sign Brady Aiken, Jacob Nix, or Mac Marshall, according to @jimcallisMLB.

@jimcallisMLB: Baseball source: @Astros did not sign Aiken or Nix either. Houston gets No. 2 overall pick next year. @MLBDraft

Screw that, I hope we sign him next year and we get him and Kris Bryant instead of the Astros. \:D/

There is no other way to put it: Without signing Brady Aiken or others, this draft was a complete and unequivocal disaster for the Astros.

Classic Heyman.

I think what we just saw was a correction by the Astros. One that works out better for them honestly.

With the Appel shittiness, coupled with what likely was somewhat of an elbow concern on Aiken.....I think we witnessed them changing their mindset during the middle of the signing period.

They'll have pick 2, plus their own top 5 pick. The amount of flexibility that gives a team is insane with this format. They'll take hitting at both spots and likely have a very solid amount left over to take pitching, as we did. They're about to copy us. Just watch.

Unless he is magically declared a free agent and the Cubs sign him, this kind of sucks since we'll have another pick in front of us next year.

Not if we suck enough to get the #1 overall pick

With the way the CBA works, can you even afford to pay two top-5 talents?

Appel was already looking awful before the draft. I doubt that had anything to do with this.

I don't see how giving up a year worth of development on the #1 pick (in return for the #2 pick a year later) plus Nix can be viewed as a win.

So do the Astros have the same draft pool slot money next year or are they going to have the funds to draft 2 top players with the first 5 picks?

They lost more than just trading Aiken for the #2 pick here, this cost them two other pretty big talents. They decided their convictions over 2-3 million weren't worth draft picks(not Aiken) that would very likely exceed that in value.
