We got Torres for 1.7. No clue if it attaches other players.

The Cubs wouldn't be that transparent. That's all Torres' bonus.

I hope we get Moreno. Honestly, I'm happy with Torres. It wouldn't bother me if they signed 4-5 players for the amount Jimenez is going to get from us. But we obviously see something in him to make us go that route.

Jefferson Mejia signing today.

Wonder if that's at the academy.

Actually, yeah, looks like there might be a couple of Cubs logos in the windows.

The Rangers have given Bud Selig an emphatic [expletive] you today. With a bonus pool of a bit over 1.9 mill, they have already spent 4.450.

Rangers sign Diplan for $1.3 million; they've signed three kids for $4.4 million. Wish the Cubs had gotten to the Marlins first.

While that may be dumb long term, I'm all for anyone and everyone giving the finger to Bud and his cronies.

Does Torres check I to our top 20? Where? How about Jimenez if we get him?

Those two will probably sneak into BA's 20-30. I personally wouldn't consider anyone besides Jefferson Mejia and Torres in my top 30; those two are more advances.

Did I miss a Marlins/Rangers trade?

Not sure what the penalty is for going over, but as strong as their organization is from top to bottom, they're probably not too worried about it. Even if it costs them a first round pick, they're likely to end up picking in the tail end of it anyway.

Apparently the Rangers acquired some of the Marlins' international free agency pool. I haven't seen more details.

We really don't know that anyone has made a trade with the Marlins yet. Not to mention, the Rangers could only have acquired 971350 from them anyway.

Mildly off topic, but does anyone know what has happened to one of last year's international signees, Luis Acosta? He's had a total of 4AB this year for one of the Cubs DSL teams, struck out each time and hasn't played since. Injured?

Definitely is. The blue sticker is reflecting and it's most definitely a Cubs sticker. You can see the reflection behind the glass just above an office chair.

He's injured but I don't know the type or severity of injury.

@keithlaw: Orioles acquire Scott Feldman and Tony Clevenger from the Cubs for Jake Arrietta, Pedro Strop, and int'l bonus slots.

I posted this in transactions, but due to that last part, it certainly belongs here too.

@ProfessorParks: #Rangers J2 strategy this year appears to be "[expletive] the cap and [expletive] you." This is the definition of scouting #rig.

Badler forecasted both of the top two international prospects — Dominican OF Eloy Jimenez and Venezuelan SS Gleybor Torres — to sign with the Cubs, but he noted that they would need to trade for additional pool space in order to make it happen.

Well, the Cubs have done exactly that, and there is already a report out this morning that Torres has agreed to sign with the Cubs. Jimenez’s signing should follow in the not too distant future now that Chicago has enough money to sign both of their prize targets.

Technically the Feldman trade didn't give them enough to sign Eloy Jimenez. It's the ensuing Torreyes trade that did it.

Jason McLeod must REALLY like Jimenez and Torres.

Or they REALLY like someone who is 15 right now, right (and therefore don't want to deal with penalties next year)?

I wonder if there's any of those uber prospects on the horizon.

Looks like the Cubs and Rangers are taking the two opposite paths to spending a lot of money this year.
