Go CUBS !!

Trevor Cahill is a really good pitcher guys, it's totally acceptable for the Cubs to be completely non-existent on offense.

As I predicted before the Coors series, the Cubs SUCK on every NL West trip. What a disaster.

Losing out would mean tying the franchise record for losses.

Ugh. This is awful. They better get REALLY [expletive] good.

Once we're turned around (if it happens) I really hope we have a long string of good teams. If that happens, I can live with this, otherwise, this really, really blows.

Love this guy trying his hardest to look at a terrible season even worse than it is. Stop trying so hard.

Fonzie Bomb! He's had a fantastic season.

32 HR 108 RBI .828 OPS. Really torn about what to do with him this season. At this point. I'd still be willing to eat a much salary as possible, but it would require a package including a top 100 guy and 1-2 quality pieces as opposed to the sack of rubbish I'd have gladly taken for him this time last year.

Since Shark was turned off, our rotation has been (in order of most to least viable as a big league pitcher):

No. 1: Travis Wood: Acceptable 4 starter, but when he's the best you have, you're already doomed

No. 2: Chris Volstad: any hope has faded

No. 3: Chris Rusin: Maybe a fill in here and there when a regular is DLd or you need an extra arm for a double header.

Rank&File: Germano and Berken who by right should be AAA mop up men.

The Cubs have been bad all season, but the recent sprint to 100 losses should be credited to this, and not something to expect going forward.

It comes down to whether or not Sori will be around by the time that management expects to compete. If yes, then keep him. Otherwise, paying him a lot of money while the rest of the team is terrible really doesn't make much sense. I don't see a much better team in 2013 so my best guess is that they trade him this offseason, paying a significant portion of his salary and getting a couple good prospects in return. I am guessing though and I could be convinced either way. You are right, he has had an excellent season and until you posted it I hadn't realized he was OPSing over .800.

Actually, it makes plenty of sense if they can't get a decent return regardless of how much of his salary they pick up.

Just because the Cubs likely won't be competitive in 2013 doesn't mean they have to trade Soriano. If they aren't going to get a good return, they'll keep him. They still have to field a squad next season and could also trade him next summer when salary won't be as much of an issue.

Until the second half of next season, when we again dump 40% of the rotation and replace it with organizational filler.

But you are right. As bad as the Cubs are, they could improve quickly because of the sheer number of terrible, below-replacement performances they've gotten.
