Game 4 - BEARS @ Dallas Cowboys - MNF 7:30 PM

Posted
Frustrating night. Bought plane tickets to Tampa with a return flight of Monday night. When I realized my horrible planning, I tried to get a Tuesday flight home. They wanted $400 to change our flight, and that's not including another hotel night. So I figured I'd just DVR the game and keep my phone off. Even set it on two tv's to make sure nothing ruined my opportunity to see this game.

Our layover is in Houston and right there at our gait is a tv showing Monday night football and we have an hour and a half to kill. There is no way I can NOT watch it, so we watch. The big mistake was the wife wearing Bears gear. The flight to San Diego is at halftime. We land and as we are exiting the plane, the pilot says "great game by the Bears tonight" to my wife because she's wearing the Bears shirt. I ripped him a new ass on my way out for ruining my recording. She covered up her Bears shirt to avoid any further spoilage.

Got home and finished watching a most glorious game at 2am.

You had no business ripping the pilot. You should be ashamed. That's on you.

I was in a cab during the Rams game when I was waiting to see the game on DVR when I got home. Cab happened to have the game on, and I was definitely frustrated and trying hard to focus on anything else (managed to not hear the score, too), but I didn't even want to ask him to change it. What if dude wanted to listen to the game?

Under your breath or in your head, I hope...

No kidding. If he's not exaggerating that's straight up psycho-behavior.

I was exaggerating when I said I ripped him a new ass. I just pointed out in a frustrating tone that he just spoiled the game for us. He had to know this, since he was on the same flight we were. Not sure how he even knew the results other than we had to sit in the plane for an extra 20 minutes while they fixed the jetway.

If that's psycho, I'll wear that hat.

Why did he "have to know" that? If he "has to know" anything it's that in today's world it's easier than ever to check scores and keep track of a game and assume that's what most people do. If anything it's more realistic for you to ask your wife to not wear anything that's going to encourage someone to talk about the game.

That's pyscho. Pilots are in touch with people on the ground. They also own smartphones. They get updates all the time and historically have provided updates to passengers. If you fly during a game you expect to see unspoilered hours after the fact, that's on you. I don't see the point myself. Don't be an ass to the pilot just because you screwed up your schedule and are in the distinct minority of people who don't want to know the score of a live sporting event.

How is it not a dick move by the pilot to say good game? You've been on the plane. He knows you couldn't have watched the game on the plane and couldn't know what happened? Unless there was wi-fi I guess, even then you can't get streaming video on any inflight wi-fi I've had.

You couldn't know what happened? Is this 1979?

Who wants to watch their favorite team play via Gamecast?

Far more people are going to try and find out the score via live updates than are going to try and avoid all news until they can watch a replay.

Eh, not me. I've got multiple friends who turn their phones off and wait to get home. Wearing the Bears gear was a bad idea, I agree.

If you care about watching your favorite team play sports uninterrupted who schedules a flight during that time?

Most people will take live updates over the folly of trying to watch a game on DVR unspoilered hours after the fact. I've done it many times.

Yeah, I'm not saying NOBODY records it, but you'd think someone who did would do everything they could to keep someone from talking about it. Wearing a team's gear is basically an invitation for someone to bring it up.

If you are going to miss the first quarter or something, that makes sense. If you are going to miss the entire time slot of the game and then try and watch it on DVR, it's not a dick move by anybody who spoilers it for you. It is a dick move if you react to the spoiler like an ass and criticize the normal human being who isn't the psycho.

100% this.

And the stuff Mojo said too.

Whatever, I can understand being pissed about being spoilered. I wouldn't ever yell at someone or freak out like that, but I would still be pissed.

edit: assuming the game is in progress, just ended, or in the case of MNF it's the night of.

Games have been spoiled for me before and while it's annoying, I found it impossible to get upset the times the Bears won the game. If anything, it's a relief and makes me look forward to the DVR even more.

So did you finally realize how ridiculous your stance is and that's why you deleted the post?

He deleted my post too. Or somebody did...

Just don't see a reason to continue with the discussion at this point.

You can't really get mad about having the game spoiled when you're:

1) Going to be mingling with so many people and traversing an airport after a Monday night game

2) Wearing team gear, thus inviting comments

Thinking you could make it home without seeing/hearing any spoilers would be a fool's hope. Being disappointed is one thing, getting angry is ridiculous.

And "great game by the Bears tonight" is pretty innocuous as far as spoilers go. It'd make me look forward to watching it even more.
