Contract purchased following their win tonight. Former Cub Brad Snyder DFA'd to make room, if anyone's keeping track.

I am guessing third? Michael Young has been pretty poopy thus far.

Never mind, forgot about Beltre. Yeah, I don't know.

They have Beltre... Is Olt at least capable of playing a corner OF spot? Maybe they are moving him up to play LF/RF so Cruz/Hamilton can DH to get extra rest and avoid injuries down the stretch.

probably DH since michael young has a .641 OPS

Where else would he go? Whenever Michael Young isn't playing DH, Napoli or Cruz are because Napoli can't hack it behind the plate all the time and Cruz is made of glass. Theo nly place he might go is 1B to replace Moreland. He doesn't have tremendous numbers, but he's not doing terrible by any stretch. Same with Murphy in LF.

Unless they just plan to outright bench Young? That's an expensive pinch hitter.

They certainly can't bench Young. He's a professional who gives the team professional at-bats. He's a pro's pro.

...or something like that

Stupid question, but if a guy has 10/5 rights and he is placed on waivers and a team claims him, can he refuse to go?

I've actually been surprised, because the media and fans in Dallas have been calling for Young to be benched. Then again, the Rangers have had a few weeks that make fans anxious and Young has been pretty awful for a 1B/DH playing in that park. I can't imagine Young having much value. Yes, he had a fluke rebound year last year, but he had been trending downwards the two years before. 1B is the only position he can play at a competent level at his age.

IIRC, he also asked to be traded a couple years back after they acquired Beltre and they wanted to move him to DH, so I'm sure leaving Texas will not be a problem for him if they're relegating him to a bench role

Washington just said the plan is for Olt to play 1B and DH. Against lefties. Awesome.

Ohhhh, that's embarrassing.

i wonder how olt feels

I still don't get why he was in AA and not AAA.

Almost wonder if it's just because its very easy for anyone in the organization to scout him since it's a 45 minute drive from Arlington to Frisco. Nolan Ryan seems to be there almost a week.

So the Rangers have started him 6 times since the callup on August 1st, including one pinch hit situation. 4 times at 1B, once at 3B, and once in RF. None at DH. I would have to think spot starting one of your most valuable minor league assets while in the middle of a great minor league campaign is not the proper way to develop him. WTF are they doing?

really makes me wonder if he could have been had for garza if he didn't get hurt.
