No, I don't agree with having Vitters up to watch Valbuena or Jackson up at all. These are the types of moves a manager asks for because he's getting tired of losing games even though that's more or less exactly what the GM wants.

I don't get what you are saying. They were brought up to lose games?

I kind of wonder if he wasn't brought in as a stop gap until they have a good team. I mean if they didn't think they were going to field a competitive team for a while maybe that's why they ultimately went with Sveum. Sveum doesn't seem like a brilliant strategist or a great players guy. He's just kind of a middle of the road average manager. Or maybe it just seems that way because of the piss poor team he's got to deal with. I do like the defensive shifts he's used.

I hope he's not a stopgap. I'm not sure he's anything ridiculously special as a manager, but I'm not sure anyone is. He's done well enough so far, with what he's had, to where I hope he gets to stick when we're good again.

He's just kind of a middle of the road average manager.

 

For me that's the ideal manager, and the Cubs have had far, far too few of them. I rank manager pretty low on the list of things that significantly impact a team, so a middle of the road, unremarkable guy who you forget is there half the time is just what I want.

A little off topic what kind of manager is Ventura? He seems that kind of guy, but I don't follow them to know. Just curious....
