Gary Bettman: "we have about nine or ten days to get this all put to bed, signed, sealed and delivered for this offer to be effective."

Hearing if #nhl season starts Nov. 2, teams have been told schedule would likely start as is and games missed would be added at end of year

File this under, "probably doesn't matter":

NHL's Bill Daly: "I can confirm that we delivered to the Union a new, comprehensive proposal for a successor CBA late yesterday afternoon."

This actually sounds like a legitimate attempt to get a deal done. Up to this point it all has felt like the offers were more about trying to win in the court of public opinion, not actually trying to get something accomplished. It is really shameful that this has been drawn out like this.

Totally agree. My concern now is that Fehr smells blood in the water because the league made these relatively umprompted concessions. Will he think he can get an even better deal a week from now?

That's probably why the league didn't care if this proposal got out to the media and public. They want the PA membership to see it and realize what they are really fighting over.

The last fight will be the cap stepdown, I think.

One of the other interesting things I saw on Twitter was that the league proposed that all non-playoff teams will have a shot at the #1 draft pick now.

I didn't see whether the proposal addresses realignment. I hope they do for the 13/14 season.

It's always been obvious but this makes it even more obvious that they have already agreed to the framework of a deal. That it got this far is mostly Bettman's fault, but Fehr isn't blameless either.

They'll finish something up in the next week I'd bet.

Given the fact that very few people care about hockey before the holidays and that teams probably lose a lot of their money by staying in operation early in the season, conversely making their money late in the season, that does make sense.

Has their been a drop dead date announced or at least rumored? I cant remember when the NHL resolved in 1995, but I think they were up against a drop dead date when the NBA resolved in mid January 99.

I have heard mid January. I think that is also when they got it done in 95

USA beat Canada today pretty soundly to advance to the finals of the World Juniors. Final against Russia or Sweden Saturday at 7:00 am on NHLN. This is some very good play. Can't believe they steamrolled a Canadian team with several NHL'ers who were only able to play because of the lockout.

The Devils organization is pleased to announce that it has completed a refinancing of its credit facilities with CIT Group acting as lead arranger. The organization believes that its successful refinancing during a work stoppage demonstrates the strength of the Devils franchise and the Prudential Center, enabling it to continue to execute on its business plan. In addition, in connection with the refinancing, Jeff Vanderbeek and his affiliated entities purchased the stakes of his co-owners, Brick City Hockey and its related entities.

Statement from Jeff Vanderbeek:

“Today’s announcement is good news for Devils fans though I fully recognize fans' frustration with the work stoppage. Our future is now secure and we can be confident of continued on-ice success. Our team has gone to the Stanley Cup Final 5 times in the last 17 years and following the most recent run to the Stanley Cup Final last year, we are excited about our future -- for Jersey's team and Prudential Center, home to the 2013 NHL Draft.

I am grateful to Mike Gilfillan and Brick City Hockey for our former partnership. Together we shared a passion that led to the building of the Prudential Center – truly a shining jewel of a facility and in my view one of the best arenas in the entire world. The Rock is a great legacy for which we will always be proud.”

Sincerely,

The New Jersey Devils

@FrozenNotes Report: NHL season will be canceled next week if a deal isn't in place.

Time to run Bettman out of the league, ideally with a mob of pitchfork wielding Canadians in hot pursuit

If this season is lost, that would be, what, 2 1/2 lost seasons under his watch? Completely unacceptable

Posted

Yeah I saw it would be 22% of all games cancelled since 2004. Unreal.

However, in the last few days I think the attitude turned negative because Fehr wanted it to. There is a lot of speculation out there that he doesn't care whether they cancel the season or not. Which makes no sense because the players will lose so much and get te same or worse deal than they could have taken in December. Or this week.

I'm finally 100% disgusted with the whole process.

They've been saying January 11 for about 3 weeks now, so that's officially 1 week away.

Pretty sloppy game. Both US goals were flukey.

They've been awful on the power play. To be fair the Sweeden goal was a flukey bounce too. Seems like the US has mostly controlled the game.
