i don't see a significant on-field philosophy change from hendry to epstein/hoyer.

i thought our players would have some sort of patience ultimatum and sveum wouldn't be allowed to do whatever it is that he wanted to do.

they admittedly made a nice deal for rizzo, but beyond that, the zambrano trade was a meatball-created disaster. and they don't seem willing to accept walks, nor does sveum seem shy to send runners and bunt baseballs.

do you think bad hitters can just be made patient?

the two everyday hitters they did acquire (dejesus and stewart) see a lot of pitches. among the league leaders, IIRC. lahair does as well. rizzo definitely is patient.

the aggressive baserunning is fine given the lack of power on this team.

Sending runners and bunting has more of a place when your offense sucks in a depressed run environment.

yes, bad hitters can be told to go up to the plate against a pitcher who has control issues and keep the bat on their shoulders, like every other team has been doing to us since forever.

castro's patience is worse than it's ever been, btw, and he's one of the guys in the lineup that the pitchers are pitching around.

the aggressive baserunning is maddening in front of our better hitters.

i don't even know what to say to the absurdity in bold. as if pitch recognition is so easy that they can just flip a switch and get good at it at the major league level.

as for castro, do you think they haven't told him to be more patient? sveum has talked about it to the media.

that's not even what i'm saying, though. you don't need to have legendary pitch recognition to go up there against a guy like zito and tell the hitters to let him get himself in trouble and make him work. i don't know why i have to say that again or why it's so hard to understand. absurd indeed.

he's gotten much worse, so whatever they're doing if anything, isn't working.

If Castro continues to be uber-aggressive, I'd hope they consider pushing him down in the batting order to send a message that they want OBP at the top of the order.

good thing he's gotten much better at fielding under their tutelage then and is having his best year yet despite a practically unsustainably low walk rate.

lmfao. greatest thing ever.

What happened?

Sanchez just injured himself twice in the same AB fouling balls of his left leg. And Wood almost just hit him there with a pitch.

What happened?

The catcher fouled the ball off his foot and took like 5 minutes to get back to the plate. Next pitch, he does exactly the same thing.

by the way, the send that you got pissed off about earlier with hill up was in front of TRAVIS WOOD.

the thing is, castro is a dangerous hitter that can make himself better by strategically taking pitches. his "pitch recognition" is pretty good and he's one of a few serviceable hitters in the lineup, he's not getting a ton of pitches to hit.
