Random thought/question: When was the last time a MLB team fielded an all African-American outfield? Was just reading on ESPN about Upton/Upton/Heyward and I was trying to think back to the last time there was an all African American outfield and I came up blank. I know the numbers for African Americans in MLB keeps dwindling down so it has to be something of a rarity these days.

I'm probably forgetting a blatantly obvious one, but I'm drawing a blank.

White Sox had Dye/Griffey/and Wise in like 2008. Dodgers had Kemp/Gynn/Hairston Jr. on the team last year (guessing they started at the same time at least once in the OF) and had Kemp/Pierre/A. Jones a few years ago as well. Phillies had Mayberry Jr./Brown/Pierre last year.

Andruw Jones isn't African-American.

I did not know that. Pirates had McCutchen/N. Morgan/ L. Milledge/C. Monroe on their roster in 2009, I'm guessing they all were in the OF at the same time for a few games.

Mark Cuban was on Howard Stern yesterday. He really seems like a cool guy. Anyway, Howard asked him about baseball. He said that he wanted to sit down with Zell and get a handshake agreement and Zell refused. He also insinuated that Rinesdorf and the other dual baseball/basketball owners torpedoed his efforts, but admitted that the Ricketts family out bid him. He said he thought the fair value of the Cubs was @$800m. He said he tried to get the money together to buy the Astros but he couldn't get the cash together fast enough. Again, though he insinuated that the were behind the scenes shananagins to get the guy they wanted. He didn't seem bitter though, more like resigned to the fact that he won't own a team.

The commissioner’s office has provided the Oakland Athletics with tentative guidelines for a potential move to San Jose, according to three people familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it.

Upon seeing the center photo of mesmerizing catcher J. R. Towles and the accompanying birds happily perched on his jersey, I’m quite positive Towles should never be allowed to play for another team again. Just look at this guy. This is true fate at work here, he’s a Cardinal for life.

Meph's worst nightmare.

Accidentally posted this in the history thread, whoops.

Zack Greinke admits that it was all about the money...

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heyman/21767425/honest-greinke-who-admits-was-top-consideration-made-texas-offer-before-la-deal

He tells you flat out his free agency was about the money, first and foremost. Others claim it isn't, but they're fibbing. Greinke is incapable.

"If I lie I forget what I said the first time. I won't remember the lie. I don't know how people do it," Greinke said.

"It's obviously the No. 1 thing," Greinke said. "I could play for the worst team if they paid the most. ... If the last-place team offers $200 million and the first-place team offers $10, I'm going to go for the $200-million no matter what team it was."

Not gonna lie, I kinda respect him more for being honest. This whole "It's not about the money" line every big free agent spews at press conferences is cliché and patronizing.

Also, this is funny:

Oh fun. Mike Mulligan belittling "math" and "equations" in evaluating baseball this morning after talking to Ben Lindberg from BP.

I always get the impression that he's being tongue in cheek with stuff like that (not that I think he's a big fan of advanced stats or anything like that) but maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway, I don't like that show and wish there were an alternative but I like hearing about local sports on my drive to work.

Yeah, I get that. And they do get Biggs and KC Johnson on there a lot. I used to like the show better. But over time I've realized that Mulligan really is really an old style meatball sports guy.
