Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said he will be a seller in July if his team doesn't improve over the next few months.

"We just have to get on track," Amaro said. "But if July comes and we're playing like this, we'll be sellers. How we play now will determine whether we'll be buyers or sellers in July." The Phillies are 14-18 and five games back in the NL East. With a $174 million payroll, just shy of the $178 million luxury-tax threshold, and ownership that doesn't want to pay the tax, Amaro won't have much wiggle room if he decides he wants to be a buyer in July.

What do they have to sell off? Hamels? Sure, but that's risky, since they supposedly want him back. Victorino could probably get them something decent and I could see them moving in a different direction in CF. Everyone else has too big of a contract to move, other than Blanton, who's not going to get them a big return under any circumstance.

They could get a very big return for Halladay.

True, but they're going to most likely look at this as a one year deal and try contending again immediately, so I doubt they'd put him on the market.

You guys are convinced Brown sucks after 280 plate appearances across two seasons before the age of 24 and one year removed from being the 4th best prospect in all of baseball?

Okay. I guess that's a rational conclusion.

His 295 minor league PAs of garbage over that timeframe isn't helping matters.

My guess at who's available, as least on some level, this deadline, in concerns to us. Figuring we'll have Soto, LaHair possibly, Garza possibly, Dempster, and Maholm available.

Starting Pitching- Buccolz, Peavy, Floyd, McCarthy, Colon, King Felix(doubt he's moved), Hamels, Blanton, Wandy, Bedard

Catchers- Suzuki, Hundley

1st Basemen- Butler, Dunn, Youkilis, Morneau, Lee

I'm not ready to accept that we won't be buyers.

Matt Szczur and Trey McNutt aren't going to get us much.

He was also injured often during that time span. Hand and thumb injuries, IIRC. Tends to diminish the numbers a bit. When he's healthy he's awesome, but sadly he's had injuries the last year or so that have slowed down his offensive progress. 2010, when he was healthy, he was awesome. And while his 2011 in the minors wasn't all that pretty, he did manage to drastically improve his walk rate.

I think the White Sox should be sellers, I am not sure Kenny Williams really sees it that way

If the White Sox move Peavy, Konerko, and maybe Dunn, they could really begin to fix that farm system. Then again, if they want to go ALL IN again, they could liquidate whatever they have left on the farm and do some buying. They could go either way.

It's hard to deny that Browns star is on the way down, but if they had any interest in a Vitters-centric package for

him, I certainly wouldn't say no. This isn't to say that they would go for it.

This was my fear, with some team getting and extending Hamels mid season

We could be that team.

I imagine we would offer a package including guys like Vogelbach and Szczur... but are those players good enough to headline a package to land Hamels?

Toronto is in on Hamels+Victorino; sadly there is zero chance we can compete with any kind of decent offer from their system. Combine that with the fact that they have the type of money available that would let them extend Hamels and I'm not happy right now.

Philly loves toolsy types. If we were to get involved with them, Baez would be an almost definite part of a deal for him. And it wouldn't shock me if they wanted Brett as well. Basically, it's going to take a lot of convincing play by the Cubs to get me to even think about wanting to add a Hamels type this deadline. Even knowing there's at least a chance he's off the market without us getting a chance at him.

As bad as the Phillies have been, they're still only 5.5 out and when you have starting pitching like they do you have a very good chance to make a run at any time. I don't know when Howard or Utley are coming back, but they should start shopping Blanton or Kendrick for offense. The Yankees would likely be interested. perhaps a deal for Swisher. Phillies middle relief has also been pretty horrible. I'd love to sell them on Soriano and Marmol for a package built around Dom Brown. They could bite assuming we eat the lions share of the money.

Actually agreed on all points and hopes...Would love to sell them Soriano and Marmol and grab the fallen Brown in the process...and I do think their pitching will help them turn it around enough to get into the tournament.

They are a decent spot for Soriano...they spend...the park and being a contender might put some life into his bat...he plays D...hes been on playoff teams before....the Cubs might cover a good deal of the cost, especially for an upside talent...Probably only happens in my dreams.
