Or maybe when he and Theo were chatting in the bleachers he was told "if any trade happens, we'll tell you first, cause you need to approve it anyway", and then was a little irritated when he showed up to work yesterday and was bombarded with questions about a trade he had no knowledge of because Atlanta's front office has loose lips. People need to seriously take a step back with the Dempster vitriol. It's been less than 24 hours since the Braves deal broke, and the only evidence of Dempster being unhappy about it is a vaguely worded and sourced tweet from one guy.

But it was OK for everyone to berate Derrek Lee over the same thing? Now, anyone who is annoyed with Dempster (me) could be jumping the gun and he'll probably accept the trade, but it just seems like people are giving Dempster the benefit of the doubt when they wouldn't for others (Lee, McGriff). He knew the Cubs sucked this year and it would be a possibility. He clearly has talked to Theo and gave him a supposed list of places he would go. Apparently ATL was on that list. What is so hard about making a decision for 2 months? Unless they are requiring an extension, this shouldn't be difficult.

Because a different situation with a different player and a different front office three years ago is practically the same thing.

How is it different besides the people? It's like Mad Libs with Theo and Dempster instead of Hendry and Lee.

Derrek Lee rejected a trade to the Angels in 2010. Which is a completely different situation and not at all the same thing as what's happening now.

Lee didn't want to be traded and refused a trade...Dempster is OK with a trade, but is annoyed/hurt/whatever that he heard it via the media instead of from his FO first.

How about we wait for Dempster to know about the trade for a day, or actually take a couple days to waver on accepting before vilifying him?

Are people seriously bothered by the guy wanting to hear this from his boss instead of the way it came out?

I think we've been reading exactly that for the last 3-4 pages. It's like Mad Libs.

In the age of Twitter, it probably wouldn't hurt to be a little more pragmatic.

It's not hurting anything as is.

And the leak probably isn't even from the Cubs FO, which has been pretty stealth since Theo took over. So now it's the FO's fault that they discuss/agree on a trade and the Braves leak it?

Theo has probably discussed Dempster with 10 teams. Is he supposed to get Demp's OK before even talking to anyone?

What the hell are you even complaining about? He hasn't refused the trade, it's very unlikely he refuses the trade; why would this bother anyone? How is it not "pragmatic" for the guy to be annoyed that the whole thing came out like this?

Dempster being miffed that he found out about a deal from the media first(which we know is true because an anonymous source told Jerry Crasnick about it, I guess it's pretty serious), is not Dempster punishing the Cubs and rejecting a trade or changing his demands.

I'm fine with him handling it however he wants as long as he doesn't reject it on those grounds.

Exactly. I'm assuming Jed and Theo went to Dempster a while back and wanted a list of teams he wouldn't use his no trade 10/5 rights on. Ryan is being unreasonable if he provided said list and then wanted to be consulted again prior to the FO actually agreeing to the trade terms.

I don't think that is what is upseting Dempster. He's not upset that a deal was made with the Braves, he's upset that the FO didn't tell him before he was hit with a question about the trade from the media.

There really isn't much to get upset about at this point. He hasn't rejected the trade.

You're assuming that you know an awful lot of behind the scenes details.
