Anyone know who the starting 5 are right now for Iowa, Tenn, Daytona, and Peoria? Also, who are the closers for each team?

I know this changes a lot, but I just wanted to know how it looked now.

Thanks.

For now, all I can piece together is this:

Tennessee will open with Nick Struck. Dae-Eun Rhee is in their rotation too, probably at the end of it since he started their exhibition game.

Daytona will open with Matt Loosen. Austin Kirk is in their rotation too, since he's starting their exhibition game tonight.

Peoria will open with this order: Michael Jensen, PJ Francescon, Jose Rosario and Ben Wells. Not sure about their 5th starter.

Nothing on Iowa.

Tennessee's rotation is set:

@SmokiesonRadio: Smokies rotation against Chattanooga: Thurs: Nick Struck, Fri: Trey McNutt, Sat: Dallas Beeler, Sun: Dae-Eun Rhee, Mon: Brooks Raley

And that quickly, Antigua becomes a LOOGY.

AzPhil noted that the other day - Antigua is considered the number 1 lefty at Tennessee.

I don't like it, but whatever. I hope he can ramp it up out of the pen, around 93/94, to go with his slider/change, otherwise he's just another lefty.

Surprised that Raley is still in there. He can throw strikes, and any lefty who can throw strikes has a chance to slip into the major leagues in a relief role. But he seems remotely unlikely to make it as a winning big-league starter. I too would have rather taken a look at what Antigua might do given the chance to start.

Concepcion is back on Daytona's roster, so it looks like they simply wanted him to get extra work done. I can't tell who was moved to accommodate Concepcion, as I don't recall the initial list right now.

Gotta think that Concepcion grabs a rotation spot (otherwise, why keep him down at XST to throw an extended outing). Loosen will start, and Cates almost likely will get a rotation spot. That leaves 2 spots, and Kirk looks like he'll get a rotation gig, so it could be Simpson/Jokisch for the final spot. I tend to think Jokisch moves to the pen (if Kirk starts), but I guess it wouldn't surprise me if they sent Hayden to the pen, although I hope not. Might as well play it out. We know what the lefties could be, don't know what Hayden could be.

A part of me wonders if the Antigua/Raley decisions have more to do with Antigua than Raley. I still prefer to see Antigua in the rotation, but I guess if they don't see Antigua as a starter (why, I don't know. His fastball isn't great, but plenty of lefties have hit the bigs with less, and he has 3 pitches to work with), that making him the number 1 lefty at Tennessee could help him move fast. After all, we know that they are, reportedly, looking at deals for lefties, and they weren't too enthused about their lefty options performance this spring. That said, still don't like it. Raley isn't that intriguing to me anymore.

Yes. Antigua has a much, much better chance to become a major leaguer as a serviceable lefty reliever than as a starter. If the premise was that getting him into relief is the best way to prepare him for a useful big-league role, I can see why they'd do that.

I have no idea, does he have arm slot or splits that make him especially suitable?

Raley is much more athletic and has a less filled out frame than Antigua IIRC. I remember thinking Antigua was most definitely a future reliever anyway.

I'd actually wait on Raley to completely bomb out as a starter. He's got a better shot than Antigua to be a back end guy.

Well, that was the feeling when Raley was coming out, that he could potentially fill out and the stuff could improve a notch. It hasn't happened yet.

Antigua was always a borderline case to make it as a starter, but at least he had a borderline plus pitch (slider), with better heat (hits low 90's, and there were some reports of a tick higher). It's not as if Raley's command is light years better.

Raley did have a solid summer (well, June/August) last year where the command was Rusin-ish and he was striking out a few more guys. His ceiling, though, is Rusin-ish, and Antigua's seemed a bit more promising. Admittedly, it isn't the biggest deal, but I'm just wondering if this is more about pushing Antigua than any sort of expectations for Raley. With Gaub gone from AAA, it's not impossible to see a scenario where Antigua may get a look at the big league pen later this year (hopefully not, but it's not out of the question).

I don't actually think Raley will get physically better, but I do think he has the better frame, mechanics, and athleticism to maybe make it as a starter. I think both he and Chris Rusin are interesting, albeit low ceiling LH starter arms with Rusin well ahead.

Willengton Cruz is our 5th starter. Burke will piggyback Wells for now.

Thanks, Nate!

Update:

Iowa - Randy Wells, Casey Coleman, Jay Jackson, Chris Rusin, Travis Wood

Tennessee - Nick Struck, Trey McNutt, Brooks Raley, Dallas Beeler, Dae-Eun Rhee

Daytona - Matt Loosen, Eric Jokisch, ???

Peoria - Michael Jensen, PJ Francescon, Jose Rosario, Ben Wells, Willengton Cruz

Kyler Burke is piggybacking in Peoria. I hope/assume Luis Liria and Yao-Lin Wang are in the piggybacking mix too.

According to a report on Daytona's first game, Austin Kirk is in the rotation (this was mentioned earlier). He pitched 4+ innings yesterday in relief, but they intend to give him a spot in the rotation.

If both Jokisch and Kirk are in the rotation, then something surprising has to happen. That is, one of Concepcion/Cates/Simpson aren't in the rotation (unless Loosen's bad outing demotes him this quick ... which I doubt, but I guess I can't completely rule out).

Nothing's "going" with Simpson, just that, when he was sent to Daytona, I had assumed that he would be a starter. But if Jokisch/Loosen/Kirk are all starters, then that leaves 2 spots for 3 potential guys (Concepcion/Cates/Simpson), unless the Cubs decide to do some sort of piggybacking in A+ to start the year (Concepcion for 3 and Simpson for 3?)

Where did you read this? All I've read was Kirk was scheduled to start the exhibition game which was rained out.
