Off Topic - LCD, LED, Plasma....what's your preference

Started seriously looking into TV's this past weekend. Time to upgrade from the 27" tube. 8-[

 

I really liked the Samsung 51" Plasma, 720p, 600hz. I think I have it down between the LCD and Plamsa but what was wondering what you guys have/like. I've heard/read that the Plasma is best for sports/action movies.

 

Also is it worth the extra $50-$100 to go with 1080p?

Plasma is dead technology. It also has a shorter shelf life and if you have a problem, there is no fixing it.

 

LCD / OLED is the safest bet. One amazing thing about LCD's right now is that most manufacturers are selling them at a slight loss.

What kind of time frame are we talking here? For $599 it might be worth it.

plasma is not dead. the picture quality is much, much better than LCD. they are bad with glares, but the plasma i got for my basement is in a completely dark room so it doesn't matter. of course, mine has these annoying brightness "pops" occasionally, but i don't think it's because it's a plasma.

 

the picture quality on my plasma is much better than the picture quality on my LCD. and yes, get the 1080p.

The room we will have the TV in gets some indirect light but no sunlight at all. The indirect light will also be coming from behind the TV.

This is all true. Go 1080p or don't get one at all.
