I love that look with Jeffery on the outside and Marshall in the slot next to him. That can be a deadly alignment for the Bears. I think Marshall can get so much attention from the LBs, safeties, and CB over him that he can free up Jeffery on the outside, or if they are in 3-wide, a WR on the opposite side of the field is going to have man coverage, with very little safety help if the Bears are facing a single high. That's the type of coverage Hester can actually exploit.

I believe the years that Marshall has scored a ton of TD's he's been used in that slot position in the red zone area. He can definitely find his spots and use his body to make the catch in crowded spaces.

Are we going to get Forte a new contract or what? This is getting a bit ridiculous.

Unless he gets way more realistic, I sure hope not.

The Bears aren't in any hurry. Forte has no leverage. He's not a UFA.

What is he asking for?

He'll end up holding out and then get hurt.

Forte is said to want 20 mil guaranteed and about 8 Mil/year. The Bears supposed have offered 6Mil/year and about 16 guaranteed. The middle ground probably wouldn't work either at this point as several RBs have received more than 18M and 7Mil/year.

The Bears are concerned about Forte's health. Give him a 5-year deal and he'll be in his age 32 season in the final year, and RBs tend to hit a wall at 29 if they have a lot of mileage on them. And remember Forte's knee injury this year was not his first. He was hurt a couple years ago and played thru it and had a horrible season. He also missed time at Tulane due to knee injuries. And he had a ton of carries in college and a bunch of touches his first 2 years in the league.

The Bears have every right to be very concerned about Forte's future. I can't blame them for not giving him what he wants or even trying to meet him somewhere in the middle.

In what way is this getting ridiculous? I doubt anybody thought he would have his contract by now, so the fact that he doesn't have his contract by now is largely meaningless. If he isn't in camp a week or so before the season starts, then it's getting ridiculous.

Since the Bears are concerned about his knees, they'd probably rather he rest up. See you in August.

And mainly on his part.

I get that everyone wants the big contract, and the clock is ticking on his career. So I understand it on that level.

He's just not likely to get what he wants.

And one should be able to understand why he is upset and why some perceive the Bears organization as the bad guy here. While arguably better RBs have gotten the money he wants this offseason (Foster, McCoy), similar and even lesser RBs have also gotten the money he wants (Deangelo Williams, Lynch).

I don't think either side is wrong. And I don't fault either side for being upset. It's the Bears right to use the franchise tag. It's Forte's right to be disappointed and skip OTAs and part of training camp if he wants.

1. Because he wants more money.

2. Because they are clueless dolts.

Do NOT pay Forte.

All common sense says to let him walk after his franchise tagged season. He's got past knee injury issues, he's got very little tread left on the tires and the extra cap space should really be allocated to the aging defense. I do not agree with tying big money up on both RB AND QB.

He's a notch below Foster and Shady in both skill and including age.

I'm not saying the organization should bend over backwards and give him everything he's asking for, but both sides need to make some compromises here and get the deal worked out. I'm afraid he'll hold out of camp without a new deal and it seems that those players that hold out, especially skill position players, get injured early on and have disapointing seasons.

The market for running backs is trending towards the deal Forte wants, right or wrong.

How do you figure? Nearly every RB who has gotten the 'big contract' really hasn't produced accordingly. The one guy I can think of that even deserved the money was AP and even then he was hurt last year playing for a team in a rebuilding phase.

dumb teams have been paying for the RB of late though. The market is set by everybody, not just the SB champions.

the bears don't have to pay what the market sets. they can let him walk if they think he's too expensive.

they can take advantage of those dumb teams by dumping money into positions that have more true value, and they have, for the most part.

Obviously, that's been my stance. The point, however, is that cubbyvirus asked "how do you figure the market is trending toward the deal Forte wants?" The market has trended there.
