So I hope the Bears are giving a real hard long look at Marc Ross(assuming they haven't made their decision) after watching the Giants game last weekend. I think he's got the most upside of all the candidates.

I hope so too, but at this point, I'm 95% sure it will be the dude from KC who used to be here. 1. He used to work for the Bears. 2. He's worked with Ruskell before. 3. Apparantly the new guy has to keep Ruskell and Lovie. He seems the most likely to do so for more than 1 year.

But Ross is everything this franchise needs. A young up-and-coming football mind who could be here for the long haul and create some stability in the organization.

Granted, Ross could be a complete bust too, but so could all of these candidates. What you are hoping for is excellence, the next GM savant like a Ted Thompson type. I just don't get the Emery love? What did he do here that was so great? He wasn't the scout responsible for Urlacher or Mike Brown(arguably the two best picks of that time era for the Bears). He got some nice reviews from Atlanta and KC but how much responsiblity did he have for those picks?

I'm all in on Ross and will be extremely disappointed with Emery.

I'm so on the Ross bandwagon for many reasons. For instance, the Giants completly rebuilt their WR core for their last superbowl run. There was huge question marks especially going into 2009 after Plax was in jail. The Giants revamed their WR's with Nicks, Manningham, even Steve Smith was huge for them in 2009(another draft pick). Then they go out and get a guy like Cruz this year. Now the only thing to consider was this all Ross' doing or Jerry Reese? However Reese has cited Ross as the key guy in scouting all these players.

I think it's pretty difficult to know for sure how much a pick was one guy's doing or another, unless someone on the inside decides to talk about the decision-making process.

Here's how I break it down

1) Licht. The Patriots guy. He's a non factor. He wasn't even in the Patriot war rooms. BB runs that entire show.

2) Raye. Many people have pointed out that the Chargers drafts have been gone downhill since 2007, and it seems they really have. That's right around the time Buddy Nix left. So who was running that show, Nix, AJ or Raye?

3) Emery. Gets some nice reviews for his scouting in Atlanta and KC. But he was just one of many in both places, and again, Pioli runs that place pretty much

4). Ross. Great drafts and here for the most part it's just Ross and Reese the GM spearheading the draft. (Less cooks in the kitchen IMO)

So forgetting Ruskell this is how I would rank the candidates

1) Ross

2) Raye

3) Emery

4) Licht.

I think you are all going to be dissapointed. My gut tells me it's Emery w/ Ruskell staying on in a support role.

Well, that's what has been reported so I don't think that would be much of a surprise.

But I'm holding on to the Ross hope until the last moment.

I see no upside to this hire. It's essentially just delaying the eventually inevitable overhaul of the team. Complete status quo BS when they had the opportunity to take a tremendous step forward.

Not happy. Again, what did he ever do as a scout here to distinguish himself? I believe his tenure was the Hatley era and the first year of the Angelo era, our drafts during that time were pretty damn bad, no?

I'll give it a chance, he's got a franchise QB, so he needs to find some weapons around him and start replacing the aging defense. Let's see if he can manage that.

I know.

I felt like this is the kind of hire that would happen. Doesn't make me happy about it.
