The Cubs have talked to Jeff Francis about filling a spot in the back end of their rotation, tweets ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. Crasnick says the team has also had discussions with Paul Maholm, which we heard last week from Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.

if we can sign a guy like Maholm or Francis really cheap to where we don't need Travis Wood included in a Marshall trade and get better quality prospects for it, i don't really see the harm

I don't guess it matters we are apparently going to suck for 3 years.

I think the key to the Wood trade is the fact we'd have him under control for 5 years and he's already in the majors. I'm not sure what we could get of possible use from the Reds, other than Hamilton or Corcino. Unless they were willing to trade us Stepheson as a PTBNL.

Or we could trade Garza for prospects and start the season with a rotation of Dempster, Zambrano, Wood, Francis/Maholm and Wells and it will be reminiscent of the good old days. The sad thing is that wouldnt even remotely approach the worst Cubs rotation of my lifetime.

Thrilling times for a Cubs fan... glad Theo's house worked out nice, about the only thing that looks to be valuable this offseason.

Jeff Francis is that girl you want to get out of the bar before they turn the lights on. You needed somebody and it's understandable... but you get rid of her at the first available opportunity and feel really bad about yourself afterwards.

 

I really hope the Travis Wood acquisition takes care of the need to acquire a #5 starter and we can set our sights a little higher.
