According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, catcher Chris Iannetta is on the verge of being traded to the Angels for 21-year-old right-handed starter Tyler Chatwood.

The Rockies first need to finalize a free agent agreement with veteran catcher Ramon Hernandez, but that could happen within the next several hours. Iannetta posted a decent .785 OPS with 14 home runs and 55 RBI in 112 games this past year for Colorado. He'll give the Angels a much-needed offensive boost at catcher. Chatwood registered a 4.75 ERA and 74/71 K/BB ratio across 142 major league innings in 2011.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rockies are close to a two-year deal with Ramon Hernandez.

Once the medicals are checked and the free agent agreement is finalized, Colorado will send catcher Chris Iannetta to the Angels, according to Rosenthal. Hernandez turns 36 years old next May, but he batted .283/.342/.451 with 12 home runs this past year for the Reds and might represent a slight overall upgrade over the 28-year-old Iannetta.

I don't think he's much of an upgrade over Iannetta and is much older, but Chatwood is a nice get.

So 1 year of Iannetta is worth 5 years of Chatwood? Is it too late to trade Garza for Trout and Weaver?

If I woke up one morning and happened to be in charge of a major league baseball team that currently employed Jeff Mathis as its starting catcher... well, I might do some things I'm not too proud of either.

What the hell are the Angels doing? They have done some dumbass things over the past couple years.

And this is after they got rid of the dumbass who did them

Scoiscia is still there.

Which doesn't make any sense as to why they traded for Ianetta. I'm unfamiliar with his defense, but I've always looked at him as Mike Napoli's NL equivalent

No, he doesn't. He is just very young. Amazing that they gave up a quality young arm for Chris Iannetta. Terrible. I thought Dipoto somewhat knew what the hell he was doing?

Walks way too many batters and has seen his K/9 sharply decrease as he moved up levels. He's going to be a reliever, and that's only if he can get the walks down.
