But they could have him AND Reed Johnson!

Yes they can. ROTFL all you want, but if you glance over most 4th outfielders in the league, I assure you that a lot teams would prefer Reed Johnson over theirs. It's not going to get teams to jump on the deal, but it could add a dash of sweetener to the pot. I still don't get why they signed Reed, at least for the amount that they did and highly doubt that whatever he brings back, if anything, will be worth what we paid for him, but since what's done is done, I'll take whatever we get in return.

I don't see teams looking at acquiring two OFers. I do think Reed and his gritty veteranness gets dealt, we won't get much back obviously, but maybe we get a higher upside type that's struggled anyway.

maybe 5th outfielder, but who cares about 5th outfielders?

Whatever Boston winds up getting for Youkilis, I figure the return is going to be fairly close to what we can expect for Soriano.

Perhaps, however: Youklis has had an awful season, whereas Soriano is having his best in the past few years. Also, Boston is in contention after a rough start and might prefer to deal him for something to help them now. They could also chose to salary dump. Youklis does play a more valuable position though.

No, we got what we were going to get for Byrd. This being said, if anyone were really interested in a right handed 4th outfielder, Byrd would have a job by now. That being said, if we got something with a pulse for Neifi Perez, there's a market for everyone assuming you're ready to accept a lottery ticket, even if it is a $1 scratch off and the grand prize is $100.

@Buster_ESPN: Dodgers have scouted Bryan LaHair, and like other teams, they have concerns about defense. Maybe that won't matter, because they need help.

Yet they're not concerned by the fact that he's been in free fall for about a month now? Still, desperate as they are we should try to sell than in a most expenses paid trip to Alfonso Soriano, and if they want LaHair as well, more prospects for us.

I know there is the Dodgers thing wtih Lahair, but Ethier looks like he might go to the DL with an oblique strain. With Kemp and him out, both with injuries that can take a while to heal/are pretty easy to re-aggravate maybe we can get them to get in on Soriano.

I'm sorry, but what??

It's like that Rangers broadcaster had another migraine while typing that.

They definitely have to be coming close to desperation by now. They once held a healthy lead in the NL West, and are now tied with the Giants who have better pitching and better offense. Take Kemp and Ethier out of the Dodgers lineup, and they look like, well, the Cubs. Give us Eovoldi, and they can have as many of our non Castro or Rizzo hitters as they want.

You make the statement that without two of their best hitters the Dodgers look like the Cubs. Then you say give us a good prospect and you can pick from all but the two best hitters from the same team you just compared them to unfavorably? What don't you understand?

Short answer: desperation

Long answer: they're still tied for 1st place but have lost the guy who carried them to a once comfortable division lead. They look like they're about to lose their 2nd best hitter as well. They have 2 other semi regulars with OPSs over .800, and one of them is Jerry Hairston Jr. Beyond that, their offense is terrible. There isn't much available on the market, and Soriano would likely be their 2nd best, if not their best hitter until Kemp and Ethier come back, and once they are back, assuming they stay in contention, which shouldn't be too hard in that division, Soriano would be a hell of a lot more valuable to them as a 5-6 hitter behind 2 guys like Ethier and Kemp than he is to a team that's I don't even know anymore how many games out and attempting to rebuild.

Yes, injury-plagued team; trade for the old, vastly overpaid "outfielder" who is this close to playing on one leg. Hell, you might even get Reed Johnson as a toss-in.

I think there are people on here that just don't want to admit that signing Reed ended up being a pretty good choice....or at least a move that people shouldn't be extremely pissed about
