Jose Reyes has had 3 6+ WAR seasons, and another at 5.8. Prince Fielder has had 1 6+ WAR season.

I don't think you'll find many that think Reyes is not a good player. The problem is, he will cost a lot of money and plays a position where we don't have a huge hole to fill. Prince Fielder will cost a lot of money and fill a huge hole. Priorities, man.

His injury history has to be on that list too. Probably at the top of the list, even.

Yeah, I honestly don't know which scares me more between Fielder's weight and Reyes's legs.

Reyes, easily. Prince is fat, but fortunately he doesn't have a history of injury to worry about.

As Bob Sanders posted, it's an easy choice picking a fat guy at a position of need over a crippled guy at a position that's filled.

Sorry...what do you mean by this? I've read Rob's post and yours about 4 times now and I can't figure it out.

Yeah I see what you mean...wow did that post not fit at all. Sorry...

If Reyes comes at a low enough price (say 5/65-75 or even 6 with those numbers) then he'd be a great secondary signing to one of the 1B bats. I wouldn't mind this if they lost out of the three big pitching names that might be on the FA market. The lineup would be pretty much set for years with Reyes - Castro - Fielder/Puojols at the top.

Gotcha.

I don't agree, but now I get what you're saying.

I'm not in love with the idea either. No point in moving either him or Castro, plus I share the worries about his legs. However, IF the Theo Epstein does it, especially in year 1, then surely there's is a light guiding the move to success.

Well there is a lot of talk that Castro is eventually going to 2nd. Having Castro replace Barney would be a significant upgrade. Still with that 1st base is more important to me too.

Even if Castro moves the Cubs are still relatively deep with MI talent.

I really do not think Fielder is that fat.... Just me.

I'll never understand how a vegan is that fat. Does he eat whole sticks of butter?

Butter is not in a vegan diet.

He's neither vegetarian nor vegan (whichever he was) anymore.

Once there, he must have enjoyed one of the vegetarian side dishes like the deep-fried corn on the cob or the sweet potato fries, both of which are excellent.

Right, Mike?

"He had a rack of ribs," Emerson says.

Well, then.

As our table laughs, Emerson takes the opportunity to tell a funny story, the veracity of which doesn't really matter because it's a boastful tale told by a barbecue joint owner and who doesn't like one of those? Emerson says that before Fielder came into Pappy's, he had been mired in a slump "like 1 for 20 or something."

"After he ate here, I think he went something like 4 for 8," Emerson says. "I told [Cards pitcher] Adam Wainwright(notes) about it and that night he yelled at Prince from the dugout and asked how he liked our ribs."

I still don't know how they got Eddie Murphy to look that young.
