Not to defend Kaplan, but how much does the player's team's say-so fit into them playing in something like that? Maybe since the Red Sox technically didn't OK it and he's now being traded he was pulled. Just spitballing; I have zero clue if that's right or not.

I don't see how it's unreasonable to think that isn't a sign that he was used as compensation. It would be a horrible decision, but depending on the situation in which he was pulled, the 2 options are that he was sent to them or injury, neither of which is a good thing. Id really prefer not have some dreadful outfield combination of Soriano, Byrd, Colvin, and Campana.
