and gave Crane a BS co-presidency IMHO

What is so BS about it? He ran the business before, and runs it now. If it was just BS they would just let him go.

Sure he runs the biz side, and I have no issue with that, but what I was trying to say I guess is Crane was THE Pres and now everyone knows Theo is. The fact Crane got to keep Pres on his biz card is all that it amounts to. I look at it as they moved him sideways to bring in a real Pres.

He ran the business before and he runs the business before. He wasn't really running the baseball side, so while, sure, they moved him sideways, he's still doing the same damn thing.

the hatred towards crane kenney is totally over the top and hilarious. but i mean, he does seem like the kind of guy who dreams in corporatespeak, tells all the black women he comes in contact with that he "likes your hair", and weasels a john lennon quote into most powerpoint presentations.

regardless, keep the lights on ck and we're good.

What he needs to do is revamp his image. Maybe come up with a cool origin story that makes him seem badass. He's obviously a numbers guy, so he could/should fit in with these guys. Keep in mind that to convince Pujols/Fielder to come here will require more than just Theo Epstein to paint the picture of the role that player will player in the future of the Cubs, and Kenney (Ricketts too) will be involved. To land Epstein they probably used Kenney too...maybe do something with those. Maybe have Christopher Nolan direct it so it's like oh [expletive] man.

Someone missed the part about who runs the baseball side of the organization, looks like.

Kenny will have nothing to do with bringing in free agents, nor should he.

It's a business decision too, especially for a star. Plus, he probably does some work in contracts.

ok, i've ignored it since it became an "issue", but now i have to know. what is this crane kenney thing even about?i don't live in chicago, and i never ever read anything from the chicago media (or the media in general, really). i check sports site's for information and that's it. i have no interest in reading sports collumns.

from what i've gathered while casually glossing over the kenney talk on this board, it sounds like a lot of people irrationally hate him, and then the people on the other side make fun of them for caring so much.

my question is, what exactly do people hate him for? i don't even know what crane kenney does. do they dislike him for legitimate reasons, or do they just think he's a dick? i don't get why his name is always brought up and argued about.

He is a suit, and people hate suits. He's from the Tribune, and people hate the tribune. There have been Hendry supporters and Hendry bashers and throughout Cubs history opinion wavers on the baseball decision makers. But for at least as long as the tribune has been involved, people have used ownership as the primary target. Now only the real loony tunes are angry at Ricketts, so the only remaining suit to hate is Crane.

Many in the media hate him for reasons that are rarely articulated. The most complete I've seen is this recent takedown from Sullivan: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-10-24/sports/ct-spt-1025-cubs-crane-kenney-chicago--20111025_1_ricketts-family-rickettses-cubs-owners

An excerpt:

Those who have worked with Kenney describe him as a driven individual who ingratiates himself to whomever is in charge, whether it was at Tribune Co. or at Clark and Addison streets. There's no shortage of detractors, including one fellow board member of a local nonprofit organization Kenney once served on. The source said their relationship soured almost immediately after Kenney touted himself as a fundraising expert.

"He made a big deal about how much money he was going to raise for us and got some publicity for it," the source said. "The day of the fundraising event, he showed up and didn't get any of the money he'd promised, yet he acted like he'd done nothing wrong.

"When you're dealing with nonprofit organizations, it's a very polite world, and no one calls you out when you do something like that. I was in control then, so when it came time to reappoint (the board), I just made sure he wasn't on it."

I remember how angry I was when Crane signed John Grabow in '09.

[expletive], this is goofy.
