Cashner is starting for Tennessee. He's still on a 1-inning/25-pitch limit. If all goes well, this will be his last start at Tennessee and he'll get bumped up to Iowa for 2 appearances. Then, it's the big leagues.

Random tidbit from "ggros" on the PSD boards:

I saw Baez play 3 games and first of all - he looks like a supremely talented player!! He doesn't like losing (they lost the first 2 games and were on their way to losing a 3rd and I think he was frustrated by the - at times - poor play around him). I noticed him sort of cocking his arm before he threw, but I saw no obnoxious cockiness. He is obviously a very confident and intense player. Very aggressive on the bases too. I loved what I saw. Such a sweet and fast swing. He looks like such a natural at the plate. Those 2 doubles off the wall were absolute rocket shots. The errors were costly, but he made some sparkling plays too. Remember these infields aren't the best either. He may well be destined for 3rd or even 2nd base, but no way can that be based on his 3 games here.

On the play where he supposedly threw after the runner crossed first - I saw that very differently. He booted the grounder and the ball bounced off his glove, over 2nd base and into the outfield. He ran to retrieve it and fired wild to first in trying to get the runner who had rounded the bag. If it was on-line, it might have been close. It might have been somewhat ill advised, but it was not an outrageously bad judgement play.

Vogelbach on the other hand, is the total team player. Always up and encouraging and congratulating teammates. His power is so awesome and he is so much more advanced as a hitter than Rock Shoulders. I see Vogelbach moving through the system pretty fast.

The other guy I was really high on is Gioskar Amaya. He can play all infield positions, though 2nd is probably where he should be. Soft hands, quick bat, makes solid contact with a lot of line drive extra base hits (8 triples and 11 doubles). I saw a couple hit off the high fence at Fitch. He has good speed, but not great. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Also - I don't know anything about him, but Michael Jenson (RH-SP) looks like he has a great arm. On the other hand - hitters really dig in against Simpson and he is always struggling out there. He doesn't appear to be throwing in the 90s.

Boy I wish they would have shut Simpson down and put him on an off-season program.

McNutt with his best start in a while, 6.0 IP 6 H 1 ER 3/5 BB/K, although it technically wasn't a start as Cashner pitched the 1st inning and struck out the side. I'd much prefer Cashner do that the rest of the season than be called up to the big league bullpen. Beliveau also pitched a perfect inning and Vitters went 2-4 with a HR.

Thing is, there's close to a month left in the major league season after the minor league season ends. So if they want Cashner to pitch at all in September it has to be with the Cubs.

he's not a prospect (shut up, bear claw), but opitz had a monster game for daytona - 4-4 with 2 home runs and 6 rbi. szczur was 2-6; logan watkins 2-5 with a SB. loosen pitched pretty well. angel guzman pitched in relief (rather than his usual 2 inning start) and gave up 3 runs on a hbp, single and hr.

vitters was 2-4 with a hr and a K. beliveau 2 ip, 1 h, 1 er, 0 bb, 2 k.

They will in a couple of weeks when their offseason comes around. He's going to have to put some weight on this offseason.

He has to be the starting CF next year, right?

At some point, maybe. It'd be pretty sweet if he impressed enough to make the team right out of ST.

Good to hear Vitters hits a HR. I miss high K McNutt, and I hope he returns next year.

Vitters is up to a 281/322/434/756. Turned 22 on Saturday.

He's actually up to .283/.323/.442 after last night.

Thanks. Used BR instead of Smokies website. Rookie mistake

BJax 1/2 (double) with 2 BB's. 3 runs scored.

If Jackson is in Iowa next year and the right side of our OF is some combination of Campana, Colvin, and Byrd, I'll probably be forced to punch something every game until he's called up.
