Congrats to all the playoff teams:

West:

NSBB - Bye

Eyes of Texas vs Habitual Linesteppers

East:

Bazingas - Bye

Tootie vs GHS

Also, I believe the rules state that as of now, no free agents can be picked up by the non-playoff teams. Free agents picked up by the playoff teams must be dropped before the offseason.

That's my recollection too.

From worst record in the league to best record in the league. Has this been done before? To quote James Brown, "I feel good!"

A few times. My first year in the league I took over the worst team and won the title.

that's not my recollection at all.

i mean, i think it's kind of a dick move to pick up FA that are actually playing right now if you're out of it, but i don't see why it shouldn't be allowed. and if someone drops someone you'd want to keep, i don't know why you shouldn't be able to.

I know we had the discussion last year, I just have no idea what the ruling on it was. I think we had said there was to be no picking up players if you were out of it but I could easily be wrong.

this was the result of what has come to be known as the great eric young jr debate. much drama was involved.

i think anybody should be able to pick up anybody and keep anybody. the problem with saying you can't pick people up when you're "out of it" is lots of teams have been "out of it" for weeks. rodelo just picked up capuano last week for some reason even though he's out of it. i kinda would have liked to pick him up, but i don't think i have any right to him over rodelo. if i dropped tommy hanson today because i was sick of his injury problems, nobody could pick him up and keep him? that seems dumb.

sucks for RWD...most points in the league and out of the playoffs. can't believe i pulled that off.

Actually you had 3 more points than him for the season looking at the standing right now and was 3rd in the league in points.

you're right.

man, i'd be feeling real good about my chances if i was heading into the playoffs with the league's highest scoring offense and a 1-4 of lincecum, josh johnson, hanson and kennedy. instead, hey let's see what randy wells can do.

I went back through threads from the past two seasons and could not find a discussion on this, unless I missed it.

Yeah, Tim is right. I got burned with this rule. My understanding was that you could not pick up major league FAs, but I did look and find players to complete my minor league roster(I picked up Kipnis). Apparently that was a no-no. I disagreed, but it was the ruling and it is one that I can live with.

Because a non-playoff team picking up a player now could prevent a playoff team from doing so. That could be important if a playoff team loses a player due to injury.

I definitely remember the ruling was what Tim said, although I'm not sure what thread it was in (or even if it was in an NSBB thread in the first place, as opposed to discussion in the Roadkill chat room). I also believe the EY Jr. issue was related to an extension of the rule stating that teams eliminated from the playoffs also can't pick up players. I believe that clarification was made after you picked up EY, then there was a poll about whether you should be able to keep the players you picked up before the rule was clarified. I voted that you should be allowed to, but the majority vote was no.

I remember teams having to drop players they had picked up during the playoffs last year. I could be imagining things, though.

You're not imagining things. I remember that too. The reason was to avoid giving playoff teams an unfair advantage when planning for the next year.

It appears Randy Wells and Tim Lincecum have switched bodies for a day.

Does this include minor league eligible players?

so should rodelo be allowed to keep capuano? he picked him up in the middle of last week (the last week of the regular season) when he had no chance at the playoffs. that's no different than him picking him up today.

the easiest way to do it is to just let anybody pick up/keep anybody they want.

But last week wasn't the playoffs... we can't make the rule start prior to the actual playoffs.
