Not quite sure exactly how this whole thing works.

-Once a player is claimed by another team, they have such and such time to work out a deal, or the original team can simply unload the player and the contract on the other team, or they can pull the player off waivers this much I know. However, since its after the trade deadline, am I correct in assuming they can only trade for a player who isnt on the other teams 40 man roster or one who has also cleared waivers?

-Completely hypothetical example, say Adam Dunn and Alfonso Soriano both clear waivers, are the Cubs and Sox then free to go ahead and trade them for one another, however, if Soriano clears waivers, he then cant be traded for someone who hasnt been exposed to waivers?

Also, I know that NTCs are still valid, or teams would use that loophole more often.

Someone who's cleared, or is claimed by the opposing team.

As an extra note, NTCs are also valid in waiver pickups. For instance, if we place Soriano on waivers and the Giants (picking a team at random) claim him, even if we want to just let him and his salary go for free, Soriano could still invoke his NTC to block the claim.

That much I knew. Like I said, otherwise, it would be too easy for teams to get around ill advised NTCs.

Side note: I havnt been watching many games lately, so I didnt realised how close Soriano was to reverting to his 2009 self. Yikes. At this point, the only trade match I could imagine would be for Barry Zito, and while his contract is equally bad, maybe a bit worse, his 18 mil for '14 has a 7 mil team buyout. Again, it wouldnt be a pretty pickup, especially considering that Zitos been awful in one of the better pitchers parks in the league, but thats the only contract in baseball I could imagine tradeable for Sorianos.
