Clouds gathering. The supposed haul would be Kipnis, SP Alex White and minor league pitcher Drew Pomeranz. White was scratched from his rehab appearance, Pomeranz was scratched from his start at AA and word from the Rockies media is that Ubaldo could be "scratched at any minute". Edited by BCVM22

That would be one nice haul for Ubaldo.

Now Olney claims Kipnis wouldn't be part of it.

Lordy. I probably jumped the gun again here, didn't I.

Do the Indians really think they are good enough to contend?

I have no idea about the prospects they are giving up but, it doesn't seem like they are ready to throw away their rebuilding plan to contend this year.

They've gone 22-36 since their 30-15 start. Ubaldo will help and he'll be under team control for awhile but is it a move they need to make now?

No, you didn't. Recent tweets said that Ubaldo and the Indians players have been told to prepare to be traded. Pomerantz was scratched from his start in AA tonight.

EDIT: MLBTR saying the deal is done. Jimenez for Pomerantz, White, and McBride.

pretty nice deal for colorado.... makes some sense for cleveland too, given his contract.

as a kipnis owner in a keeper fantasy league i got momentarily excited about him moving from a pitcher's park to coors field.

Good Chance Of Ludwick To Indians

By Tim Dierkes [July 30 at 7:16pm CST]

7:16pm: The Indians are in position to acquire Ludwick either later tonight or early tomorrow morning, reports Scott Miller of CSBSports.com (on Twitter).

3:00pm: Yahoo's Tim Brown sees the Ludwick field as the Indians and Pirates, with the Indians more likely.

1:58pm: Talks between the Padres and Indians have some traction, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney, and there appears to be a good chance the two teams will work out a deal for Ludwick.

1:05pm: The price to acquire Padres right fielder Ryan Ludwick won't be too high, tweets Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He says the Indians are still interested. SI's Jon Heyman considers the Tribe the favorite, as it seems like the Braves and Reds are concentrating on others.

Given Ludwick's .238/.301/.372 line in 416 plate appearances, unloading most of his remaining $2.27MM should be GM Jed Hoyer's primary goal.

Looks like the Indians are about to acquire Ludwick as well, despite the fact that hes been horrible for a year and a half now. Im sure PetCo had something to do with that, though I dont know much about the Indians park.

This is great for no other reason than it keeps Ubaldo away from the Yankees

Yeah probably until this offseason or next years trade deadline

Im assuming that hes suggesting that The Indians will trade him to the Yankees somewhere in the next 12 months. Its really not that far fetched. Despite the fact that theyre in 2nd place, there still the 4th best team in an awful division, although they probably have a brighter future than the TIgers and White Sox.

The Indians, after a hot start, have gone 22-36 since then. They probably aren't that good, and will likely eventually learn that themselves, and when they realize that and realize that Ubaldo has the most value on their team, they will probably put him back on the market again.

Pomeranz might be my favorite long term LHP in the minors. I really buy that he's going to be awesome.

I can't say I'm a huge Ubaldo fan, but he's obviously a very talented pitcher with MLB results (mixed, but dominant when good).

I have to throw in that as time goes on I like this Garza trade more and more. Teams are really paying a premium on prospects for pre-FA young vets with upside for some reason. Probably cashing in on the prospect craze...who doesn't love a good prospect or two?

for a guy who has lost velocity and consistency since last year it is quite a trade. But that doesn't necessarily mean he wont be his dominant self again next year.

why do the yankees have an advantage over other teams in acquiring him via trade?

I never said they did, just that he'll be available to the Yankees and other teams.

Possible red flags here: The Yankees inquired about Jimenez earlier in the week, and asked permission from the Rockies to give him a full physical as a part of any deal. Colorado said no.

Most midseason trades do not have physicals.

I would just wonder why a team would refuse one, though. Would a player likely not pass one during the season due to the toll on the body? It just seems extremely suspicious to me.

SUNDAY: An eye fracture suffered by McBride on Friday is holding up the trade, tweets Nick Camino of Newsradio WTAM 1100. Ken Rosenthal says McBride's injury is minor and does not jeopardize the deal, though.

Who knows what the ny doctor might find. And whatever they find will quickly become public. So trade him somewhere that doesn't demand a physical if you have any concerns at all (and he's a ML pitcher, so you have concerns).

Iunno the Indians have been pretty good at turning pitchers around, and Jimenez does have extraordinary talent. I'm not his biggest fan, but he could do really well if he makes the necessary adjustments after the league has adjusted to him.
